Mount Indie is seeking a Behavioral Research Scientist (Journeyman) to support high-impact work for a federal agency focused on national security and financial crimes. In this role, you’ll bring deep behavioral science expertise to help shape policies and processes that safeguard our nation’s most sensitive operations. This position provides applied social science research in support of personnel vetting modernization efforts. The role will work closely with senior researchers and stakeholders to collect data, perform qualitative coding, and draft reports that inform policy and program improvements.
Behavioral Research Scientist (Journeyman) Responsibilities
- Conduct applied social science research related to personnel security and financial alerts
- Assist with interviews, surveys, stakeholder meetings, and literature reviews
- Support qualitative data analysis using NVIVO or similar software
- Draft sections of reports, APA-style documents, and meeting summaries
- Contribute to systematic research methodologies, including field observations and focus groups
- Provide analytical support for evaluation and policy development
- Help synthesize input from SMEs, adjudicators, and policy experts into research findings
Behavioral Research Scientist (Journeyman) Qualifications
- Active DoD Secret clearance
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant social science field (experience may substitute for education)
- 2–3 years of professional experience in social science or behavioral research
- Prior experience in a DoD or Federal Government environment strongly preferred, including familiarity with personnel security processes
- Experience conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research using tools such as NVIVO
- Strong writing skills with experience drafting reports, summaries, or APA-style documentation
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
