Summary
We are seeking an experienced Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) Senior Consultant to support enterprise automation initiatives focused on infrastructure operations, security remediation, and self-service automation capabilities. This remote contract is scoped for 1,000 hours with potential for extension and includes an approximately 8-week onboarding period. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, workflow automation, and enterprise Linux environments, with experience designing automation solutions for server lifecycle management, vulnerability remediation, configuration compliance, patching, and infrastructure failover processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead automation use case and user story design sessions to develop automation roadmaps, sprint definitions, and implementation plans.
- Design, develop, and implement automation workflows using Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform.
- Create automation solutions for:
- Server decommissioning and lifecycle management.
- Remediation of security findings, including BMC tickets, UNIFY, and CIS Benchmark compliance issues.
- Managing tenant vulnerability exceptions.
- Detecting and remediating configuration drift against CIS Benchmarks.
- IBM Storage Scale failover, failback, and recovery workflows.
- RHEL system updates and patching automation through Red Hat Satellite.
- Build and configure Ansible Automation Platform execution environments, including required collections and dependencies.
- Develop user-facing surveys and self-service workflows within AAP Controller.
- Create automation content to:
- Open, update, and close pre-approved ServiceNow change requests.
- Capture execution data and update ticket fields automatically.
- Interface with BMC REST APIs to manage monitoring alerts during maintenance windows.
- Trigger compliance scans following system updates and reboots.
- Validate datastore capacity before snapshots and apply cleanup tags after patching.
- Develop and integrate AAP workflows with conditional logic and automated decision points.
- Define and implement role-based access models, including VM permission mappings through CMDB, tagging, or AAP Inventory RBAC.
- Review, update, and document existing architecture and operational processes, including:
- IBM Storage Scale failover/failback architecture.
- Cluster configuration and tenant fileset replication.
- Cluster Export Services.
- Splunk indexing and source mapping.
- Data consistency checks and permissions modeling.
- Facilitate technical workshops focused on automation governance, security boundaries, workflow controls, and operational guardrails.
- Support development of standardized ServiceNow workflows and change processes to enable end-user self-service automation.
Requirements
- Senior-level experience with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP).
- Strong experience designing and developing enterprise automation workflows using Ansible.
- Hands-on experience creating Ansible playbooks, roles, workflows, surveys, and execution environments.
- Experience automating Linux infrastructure operations, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration.
- Experience with infrastructure automation use cases such as:
- Server provisioning and decommissioning.
- Patch management.
- Configuration compliance.
- Vulnerability remediation.
- Infrastructure recovery workflows.
- Experience integrating automation solutions with enterprise tools and APIs, including:
- ServiceNow.
- BMC.
- Red Hat Satellite.
- CMDB or inventory management systems.
- Strong understanding of Linux systems administration, security compliance, and configuration management.
- Experience documenting technical architectures and leading automation design discussions.
- Ability to work independently in a remote consulting environment with strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Red Hat certifications such as RHCE, RHCSA, or Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale or government environments.
- Experience with IBM Storage Scale (GPFS) environments.
- Familiarity with CIS Benchmarks, vulnerability management, and security compliance frameworks.
- Experience with DevOps practices, automation governance, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.
