Position Summary The HR Generalist performs a variety of human resources-related duties at the professional level and carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, training, employment, labor relations, employment equity programs, rewards and recognition, etc.
Recruiting and Employee Relations (union work environment) are the most important areas of knowledge.
Location: Bronx, NY
Salary: $72,500/yr plus excellent benefits and pension
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
* Responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints and concerns, which may involve conducting an investigation, issuing recommended conclusions and developing preventative and curative measures.
* Handles all aspects of corporate staffing efforts for all levels, including recruiting and interviewing as well as recommending applicants for hire.
* Participates in the development of human resources related policies, procedures and practices.
* Develops, facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to the workforce.
* Participates in the design and development of employee recognition programs.
* Recruits and interviews job applicants to fill various open positions through multiple methods of sourcing; organizes and participates in Job Fairs, as needed
* Assist with the onboarding process for new hires. Recommends new approaches, ideas on policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services provided.
* Provides guidance to management based on Policies and Procedures and CBAs
* Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
* Analyze various department statistics for trends.
* Represents the company at hearings for any unemployment claims, with Sr. HR Generalist or Generalist
* Keep abreast of changes and updates in employment laws, new regulations, company policies & procedures.
* Performs other duties as required and assigned.

* Must have the ability to guide and influence others
* Must have a working knowledge of employment law and other government compliance regulations
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
* Must be proactive and resourceful; skilled at working independently and taking ownership over tasks and responsibilities
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, HR software and MS Outlook. Familiarity with MS Project, a plus
* Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
* Must have the ability to work independently, be a team player and a self-starter, with a desire to get involved in a wide variety of HR-related activities.
Education and Experience Requirements:
* 2+ years' experience in a fast paced HR environment (preferably union environment)
* Experience in multiple HR functions
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
* Bi-lingual, a plus
* Membership in an HR related Professional Association
* PHR Certification, a plus
* Graduate degree, a plus
Salary for this role is $70-72.5K· 2 weeks’ vacation· 10 sick days· 10 paid holidays· 4 personal days · Pension is fully vested after 5 years of service
