Compensation:
$65 to $85 per hour on 1099 or corp-to-corp, depending on experience. A W-2 option is available at $55 to $74 per hour (no benefits).
Full-time contract, 40 hours per week. 6-month initial term with possible extensions up to 2 years.
Job Location:
Remote (United States). Open to candidates in the Eastern or Central time zones who can work Eastern Time business hours.
Role Summary:
Our client is moving content from across the firm into SharePoint Online, and they need a business analyst to sit with their business units through the whole process. You will join a 20-person migration program and own discovery, requirements, and information architecture for each business unit, from first intake through business sign-off.
You will work from a structured requirements workbook to map where each group's content lives today (Box, on-premises file shares, and older repositories) and decide how it should be organized, secured, and governed in SharePoint Online. What you document becomes the build specification for the technical migration team.
This is a business analysis role. Your success comes from running good working sessions, thinking in structure, and communicating clearly with everyone from department heads to enterprise technology leads.
Responsibilities:
- Inventory each business unit's content sources with their technology leads, including volume, ownership, activity, and business criticality.
- Lead workbook-driven working sessions to document content types, metadata, versioning, workflows, and integrations that must carry over or be redesigned.
- Capture retention, sensitivity labeling, and data loss prevention requirements in Microsoft Purview, and flag regulated or confidential content for compliance review.
- Review current folder structures and access models, then translate legacy permissions into a least-privilege model built on Microsoft 365 and SharePoint groups.
- Guide business units through the firm's standard site templates, recommend hub association, site and library structure, navigation, and metadata strategy, and confirm site owners before go-live.
- Act as the main contact between business units and the technical migration team through cutover, covering current-state and future-state findings, formal sign-off, user communications, and post-migration validation.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of business analysis experience, including at least one end-to-end SharePoint or Microsoft 365 content migration (as the analyst, consultant, or a member of the migration team).
- Working knowledge of SharePoint Online information architecture: hub, team, and communication sites, document libraries, content types, site columns, and permission inheritance.
- Hands-on understanding of Microsoft 365 governance and compliance, including sensitivity labels, retention policies, and Microsoft Purview.
- A track record running requirements workshops and turning business needs into clear, testable requirements. You communicate well in writing and in the room with senior stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel skills for content inventories, requirements tracking, and status reporting.
- US citizen or green card holder, located in the Eastern or Central time zone. Sponsorship is not available.
Nice to have: ShareGate or DryvIQ experience, Box or file share migrations, financial services or other regulated industry background, Power Automate, and certifications such as Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Microsoft 365 administrator credentials.
Why apply for this position?
- $65 to $85 per hour on 1099 or corp-to-corp, or $55 to $74 per hour on W-2.
- Fully remote, on Eastern Time hours.
- 6-month initial term with room to extend up to 2 years.
- You own the business side of a firmwide migration at a global investment firm, and your requirements drive what gets built.
