Compensation: $30.00 to $38.00 per hour

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Expenses: IRS Mileage paid from Mobile AL to jobsite

Location: Within 60 miles of Mobile, AL

Work Setting: Primarily onsite at construction jobsites, with some service opportunities

Travel: Occasional local/regional travel, including occasional overnight stays

Schedule: Field construction schedule, overtime may be available based on project needs

Mentorship: Candidates who support Youth Force mentoring after hours may be paid overtime

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Superintendent to lead commercial and industrial HVAC/mechanical construction projects within the Mobile, AL area. This is a working field leadership role for someone who can lead crews, coordinate daily jobsite activity, maintain safety and quality standards, and stay actively involved in installation work.

This position is responsible for mechanical field execution, manpower coordination, safety, quality, scheduling support, customer coordination, and apprentice development. The source job description clearly states that the Mechanical Superintendent is expected to lead by example, work alongside crews, and take ownership of assigned projects from mobilization through closeout.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead mechanical professional on assigned projects.
  • Actively participate in the installation of HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping, controls, exhaust systems, and related mechanical work.
  • Lead crews by example through hands-on involvement in daily field operations.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of Journeymen, Apprentices, and Helpers.
  • Ensure daily work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project requirements.
  • Troubleshoot installation challenges and provide immediate field solutions.
  • Perform equipment startup assistance, testing, and system verification as required.
  • Review plans, specifications, submittals, and project schedules.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers regarding manpower, material needs, schedule updates, and project progress.
  • Assist with labor forecasting and productivity tracking.
  • Identify and communicate potential delays, conflicts, scope gaps, and change order opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary field point of contact for customers, general contractors, inspectors, vendors, and other trades.
  • Attend project meetings as required.
  • Enforce OSHA, company, customer, and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Verify installations prior to inspections.
  • Coordinate punch list completion and project closeout activities.

Apprentice Development and Mentorship

  • Serve as a primary mentor and trainer for apprentices and entry-level technicians.
  • Actively teach proper installation methods, tool usage, safety practices, trade knowledge, and professional jobsite conduct.
  • Provide apprentices with meaningful learning opportunities while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Demonstrate patience, professionalism, and leadership when coaching less-experienced team members.
  • Evaluate apprentice progress and provide feedback to company leadership.
  • Foster an environment where apprentices can safely learn, ask questions, and develop confidence in the mechanical trade.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of commercial or industrial HVAC/mechanical construction experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of field leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, controls, refrigeration systems, and mechanical equipment installation.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and schedules.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • EPA 608 Certification required.
  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, including occasional overnight stays.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, rooftops, and aerial lifts.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Ability to work in attics, crawlspaces, rooftops, and mechanical rooms.
