Accounting Analyst III – Financial Reporting / Budget Analyst

Location: Richland, WA

Schedule: 4x10, Monday through Thursday

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Duration: 12-month contract with strong extension potential

Pay: $55/hr. to $69/hr., based on experience


Position Overview


We are seeking an Accounting Analyst III to support financial reporting, budgeting, financial systems administration, and analytical accounting functions within a large, highly regulated utility and energy environment.


This role supports complex accounting operations, financial close activities, budgeting, compliance reporting, financial audits, and special financial analysis projects related to areas such as debt service, taxes, fuel transactions, inventory, asset management, and overhead allocations.


This is not a transactional accounting role.


The ideal candidate will have experience supporting financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, financial systems, audit support, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial analysis within a large industrial, utility, energy, nuclear, manufacturing, engineering, or similarly regulated environment.


Candidates should be comfortable working with large financial datasets, accounting systems, financial statements, compliance requirements, and operational business units.

Key Responsibilities


Financial Reporting and Analysis

Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and reports

Develop financial analysis explaining accounting trends and budget variances

Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost monitoring activities

Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to leadership

Support special financial analysis projects related to taxes, debt, fuel transactions, workers’ compensation, and other complex accounting areas

Assist with preparation of tax certifications, surveys, and financial disclosures

Financial Systems and Ledger Support

Support development, implementation, enhancement, and maintenance of financial systems

Assist with administration of accounting systems including general ledger and online journal entry systems

Maintain project and facility ledgers in accordance with FERC and generally accepted accounting procedures

Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules

Support databases and systems tied to budgeting, cost accounting, payroll, inventory, travel, and asset management

Month-End Close and Audit Support

Support monthly and annual financial close activities

Assist with compliance audits and financial audit processes

Validate financial reporting accuracy and completeness

Identify discrepancies, variances, and reporting issues

Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements

Support development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures

Business Partnership and Communication

Interface with internal managers, supervisors, and external agencies

Communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance personnel

Translate accounting data into meaningful business insight

Support leadership decision-making through financial analysis and reporting

Present analytical findings and potential solutions to management teams


Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with an emphasis in Accounting plus relevant accounting and finance experience


OR


Associate’s degree plus 10+ years of accounting, auditing, and/or finance experience


OR


High school diploma or equivalent plus 14+ years of accounting, auditing, and/or finance experience


Required Skills


Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

Knowledge of financial reporting and accounting processes

Experience supporting month-end and year-end close activities

Experience with compliance audits and financial audit support

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Experience analyzing trends, variances, and financial performance

Strong Excel and computer system skills

Ability to work independently in a regulated environment

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work effectively with multiple levels of leadership and stakeholders

Ability to identify challenges and escalate issues appropriately

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in commercial nuclear, utility, energy, manufacturing, aerospace/defense, or regulated industries

Familiarity with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements

Experience with FERC accounting procedures

Experience with financial systems administration and ERP platforms

Experience supporting inventory, asset management, payroll, budgeting, or cost accounting systems

Experience with financial reporting packages and large datasets

Experience working in capital-intensive or highly regulated operations
