ABOUT BLUE MOUNTAIN POWER CO-OP
Blue Mountain Power Co-op (BMPC) is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric power distribution cooperative based in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. It has expanded beyond its traditional agricultural and residential base and now also provides distribution services to commercial, industrial, and oil & gas customers across parts of Clearwater, Lacombe, Ponoka, and Red Deer counties.
Safety is one of BMPC's core values. Its COR certification reflects BMPC's commitment to maintaining a safe workplace for employees, members, contractors, and the public.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Health & Safety Manager will serve as BMPC's standalone safety professional while working closely with operations, management, employees, and contractors. Highly integrated with the operational team, this position leads the development, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of BMPC's Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System (HSEMS).
The Health & Safety Manager is entrusted with strengthening processes, supporting regulatory compliance, managing risk, conducting audits and analysis, and translating safety requirements into practical safe work practices. The role combines program leadership with visible, hands-on field engagement to help protect BMPC employees, members, contractors, and the public.
Success requires strong knowledge of utility safety, occupational health and safety legislation, safety management systems, and risk management, together with the judgment to balance compliance and operational practicality. The Health & Safety Manager will lead through influence rather than authority, building trust by listening, asking thoughtful questions, collaborating on solutions, and following through.
Ultimately, we are seeking a detail-oriented, approachable, and proactive safety professional who is comfortable working independently, rolling up their sleeves in the field, and building a plan collaboratively. This is an opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact in a nimble, supportive organization where people work together and enjoy what they do.
