AccessHR is excited to partner with Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre for the recruitment of a full-time, permanent Director of Operations. This is a newly created role, and the successful candidate will be based out of Calgary.

Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre provides compassionate, trauma-informed services in child abuse prevention and intervention. Each year, we support thousands of children and youth through collaborative investigations, assessments, and therapeutic interventions. Our multi-disciplinary team of 130 dedicated experts includes a core team of 30 plus a team of experts from health, children’s services, law enforcement, justice, and victim services working together under one roof. POSITION DESCRIPTION


The Director of Operations will join a high performing and truly collaborative 5-member Executive Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The successful candidate will also lead a team of three direct reports, including the Controller, Office Manager, and Receptionist.


This is a strategic leadership role entrusted with optimizing Luna’s operational functions to support its mission. You will oversee the facilities, the staff who work within them, and the technology that supports their operations. Experience and an in-depth understanding of nonprofit operations, particularly in environments with high privacy compliance are critical for success.

KEY DELIVERABLES


  • Operations: Oversee IT and telecommunications services, delivered by a third party, with a focus on risk management, cyber security, and regular audits; manage procurement, vendor relationships, and business continuity planning to ensure efficiency, accountability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Facilities: Manage facilities maintenance, leasing, and space planning while ensuring OH&S compliance; lead safety initiatives and implement secure visitor access and reception protocols.
  • Financial Acumen: Provide support to Controller as they manage budgets, financial reporting and monitoring (including grants), investment strategies, payroll, and tax/charity regulation compliance.
  • Office Administration: Oversee reception and office administration to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations.
  • Human Resources: Lead development and implementation of HR policies, oversee recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding, manage compensation and benefits, lead performance management, and promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
  • Business Planning and Risk Management: Oversee the annual business planning process and proactively manage organizational risk.
  • Policy and Compliance: Develop and implement operational policies to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, including privacy, data management, records retention, and security.
  • Partner Agreements: Manage MOUs, information sharing agreements, and other partner-related documentation.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Strategic Leadership: Ability to develop, communicate, and earn buy-in for a clear vision; fosters a client-focused culture committed to providing exceptional support to multiple stakeholders.
  • Policy, Compliance, and Risk Management Expertise: Extensive knowledge and experience with policy development, risk management, and privacy compliance.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Understanding of budgets and processes to secure funding for programming, assets, and projects; develops innovative ways to utilize organizational resources.
  • Operational Expertise: Experience leading operations and corporate services functions including information technology, human resources, facilities, procurement, and administrative support.
  • Inquiry Based Approach: Uses Appreciative Inquiry to identify what is working well and an inquiry-based approach to issues and challenges.
  • Information Sharing & Communication: Believes that information should be shared appropriately in order to maximize employee engagement and organizational impact.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


  • Degree in business, administration, human resources, or related field.
  • 7+ years’ experience leading leaders and operational teams in management roles, including experience at the Director or equivalent level.
  • Experience working closely with executive and/or senior leadership teams.
  • Experience developing equitable, diverse, and inclusive work environments.


ASSETS


  • Graduate degree in business, administration, human resources, or related field.
  • Experience in nonprofit financial management and/or regulatory compliance including charity reporting and project charter development.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS


  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
  • Minimal travel within the Greater Calgary Metropolitan Area.
