Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.

 

An active or recently active DOE “Q” Clearance is required

 

Position Overview:

The Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) is responsible for ensuring that all information systems under their authority maintain compliance with federal cybersecurity requirements, including DOE directives, NIST standards, and site-specific cybersecurity policies. The ISSO supports system owners, cybersecurity program managers, and technical teams by implementing and monitoring security controls, maintaining accreditation documentation, and ensuring continuous readiness for audits and assessments.

 

The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of cybersecurity controls, familiarity with federal risk management frameworks, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering, IT, and operational teams in a high-security environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain system security controls in accordance with NIST SP 800-53, DOE Order 205.1C, and applicable federal risk management frameworks (RMF).
  • Develop, update, and manage Authorization & Accreditation (A&A) documentation, including the System Security Plan (SSP), Security Assessment Plan (SAP), Security Assessment Report (SAR), and Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&M).
  • Monitor system security posture and support continuous monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and configuration management activities.
  • Ensure systems comply with applicable cybersecurity requirements, including patching, account management, access control, and audit logging.
  • Serve as the cybersecurity point of contact for assigned systems throughout all phases of development, deployment, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Support system owners with risk assessments, configuration decisions, and system authorization activities.
  • Review and evaluate technical implementations to ensure they meet security requirements for classified and/or unclassified systems.
  • Support internal and external cybersecurity audits, inspections, and DOE assessments.
  • Track and report cybersecurity risks, incidents, deviations, and system vulnerabilities to the Cybersecurity Program Manager or ISSM.
  • Monitor assigned systems for indicators of compromise and security anomalies.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity operations teams to investigate and document security incidents.
  • Ensure logging, monitoring, and alerting tools are implemented and functioning as required.
  • Support contingency planning, testing, and system recovery efforts.
  • Provide security requirements guidance to system owners, developers, engineers, and end users.
  • Promote a culture of cybersecurity vigilance and compliance across project teams.
  • Collaborate with DOE, NNSA, contractors, vendors, and internal cybersecurity teams to resolve compliance issues and improve security posture.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related technical discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Understanding of network security, system architecture, identity/access management, and security control implementation.
  • Experience applying NIST, FISMA, RMF, or DOE cybersecurity policies in an operational environment.
  • Experience working in DOE, NNSA, or other federal cybersecurity environments.
  • Experience with classified system security, enclave management, or secure computing facilities.
  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, Security+, CAP, CCSP, CEH, or similar.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify security gaps and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent writing and documentation skills, particularly for technical and compliance materials.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.
  • United States Citizenship is required
