Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Access Control Escort opportunity in Los Alamos, NM, to support Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

 

Location: Onsite, Los Alamos, NM

Schedule: Varied locations based on facility and project needs.

 

The Access Control Escort supports secure facility operations by escorting and monitoring authorized personnel, visitors, contractors, and vendors while ensuring compliance with established access, safety, and security procedures. This is an entry-level opportunity, and no prior security or escort experience is required.

 

The position provides hands-on experience in access control, physical security, secure-site procedures, personnel monitoring, incident reporting, and Laboratory security requirements. Strong performance can provide a foundation for future opportunities with increased security responsibilities supporting DOE and Los Alamos National Laboratory operations.

 

This position is part of the Q Clearance Pipeline Program, which provides a streamlined pathway for candidates to pursue a DOE Q clearance and SCI status required for certain secure-site assignments.

The clearance process typically takes 6–9 months, allowing candidates to begin the process while maintaining their current employment. Once the required clearance is obtained, employees are required to perform Access Control Escort duties for a minimum of 90 days.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete required training in Laboratory escort procedures.
  • Ensure site-specific requirements for escorting within assigned areas are followed.
  • Maintain the appropriate level of security clearance required for the area being visited, when applicable.
  • Establish that each individual being escorted is eligible to be escorted within the assigned area.
  • Ensure escorted visitors and workers possess a valid badge.
  • Ensure escorted visitors and workers properly display their valid badge at all times.
  • Brief escorted visitors and workers on relevant prohibited and controlled article restrictions and ask whether they possess any prohibited or controlled articles at least once daily.
  • Brief escorted visitors and workers on applicable facility security and safety requirements at least once daily.
  • Maintain visual and aural control of escorted visitors and workers at all times to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive or classified matter.
  • Follow established escort requirements and procedures during emergency situations.
  • Comply with site-specific requirements when entering or exiting an area with an escorted visitor or worker.
  • Verify and/or perform required entry and exit logging at assigned Protected Areas (PA).
  • Participate in weekly job assignment meetings.
  • Attend daily pre-job meetings with assigned shift personnel, including construction superintendents, Radiation Control Technicians (RCTs), safety personnel, and other applicable personnel.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as requested by the supervisor.

 

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience in security, access control, customer service, military, law enforcement, construction, or a safety-focused environment.
  • Experience working in a regulated, industrial, government, or controlled-access facility.

 

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to remain attentive and maintain required observation of escorted personnel throughout an assigned shift.
  • May be required to work varying shifts based on facility, project, and operational needs.
