Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Health Physicist opportunity in Johnson City, TN.

Job Description:

The Health Physicist will provide technical and field support for radiological protection activities at the facility. The position will support operations and provide health physics oversight to ensure radiological work is performed safely, in compliance with applicable regulatory and site requirements, and consistent with ALARA principles.

The Health Physicist will work closely with other site personnel to evaluate radiological hazards, establish appropriate controls, assess personnel exposure, and support safe execution of production, maintenance, construction, waste-handling, and other facility activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide health physics support for radiological operations.
• Evaluate radiological hazards associated with facility operations, maintenance, equipment, and work activities.
• Develop and review Radiological Work Permits (RWPs), procedures, work controls, and technical evaluations.
• Apply ALARA principles to minimize occupational exposure and radioactive contamination.
• Perform or oversee radiation, contamination, and airborne radioactivity monitoring.
• Evaluate survey, air-sampling, contamination, and dosimetry data and establish appropriate radiological controls.
• Provide technical direction and field support to RCTs performing radiological monitoring activities.
• Support personnel dosimetry, dose assessments, contamination control, and radiological instrumentation activities.
• Participate in work planning, job hazard analyses, pre-job briefings, and field oversight of radiological work.
• Investigate abnormal radiological conditions or events and support development of corrective actions.
• Support radioactive material and waste characterization, handling, storage, and disposition.
• Maintain required health physics records and support audits, assessments, inspections, and regulatory activities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Technology, Physics, Radiation Protection, or related technical/scientific discipline. Relevant experience may be considered depending on the candidate’s background.
• 5–20 years of experience in health physics, radiation protection, or radiological control.
• Experience in nuclear, uranium-processing, DOE/NNSA, NRC, DOD, fuel-cycle, or other regulated radiological environments.
• Knowledge of ALARA, contamination control, radiological monitoring, personnel dosimetry, radiation instrumentation, and radiological work controls.
• Experience developing or reviewing RWPs, procedures, technical evaluations, or radiological calculations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in both office and active industrial environments.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with depleted uranium, uranium processing, fuel-cycle, or radioactive-material manufacturing operations.
• Experience providing technical direction or oversight to RCTs.
• Experience with internal dosimetry, air monitoring, dose assessment, contamination control, or radiological incident investigations.
• Familiarity with applicable TDEC, NRC, DOE/NNSA, OSHA, and radiation protection requirements.
• Certified Health Physicist (CHP) certification or progress toward certification is preferred for senior-level candidates.
