Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an MEP Estimator opportunity.

 

Work Locations: Work will be performed in office at one of the following locations:

Savannah, GA; Atlanta, GA; Greenville, SC; Charleston, SC; Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Dallas, TX; Jacksonville, FL; Dallas, TX

 

Position Summary

The MEP Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEP/FP) scopes for construction projects. This position reviews project drawings and specifications, develops detailed cost estimates, solicits and evaluates subcontractor and vendor pricing, identifies scope gaps and coordination issues, and supports the development of complete bid packages. The MEP Estimator works closely with the estimating, preconstruction, operations, and project management teams to ensure MEP costs, scope, scheduling considerations, and project requirements are accurately captured throughout the bidding and preconstruction process.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review MEP/FP drawings, specifications, bid documents, and addenda to determine project scope and requirements.
  • Prepare detailed estimates for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and related building systems.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.
  • Solicit pricing from qualified MEP subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Review and level subcontractor proposals to confirm scope coverage, identify exclusions, and evaluate pricing.
  • Develop and maintain MEP bid tabs and scope comparisons.
  • Identify scope gaps, overlaps, constructability concerns, and potential coordination issues between trades.
  • Prepare subcontractor scopes of work and Exhibit B documentation as required.
  • Evaluate alternate systems, value-engineering opportunities, and cost-saving options.
  • Review equipment requirements and identify long-lead or specialty items that may impact cost or schedule.
  • Coordinate with the estimating and preconstruction teams to incorporate MEP pricing into overall project estimates.
  • Participate in subcontractor interviews, scope reviews, and pre-award meetings.
  • Assist with estimating project changes and MEP-related change-order pricing when needed.
  • Maintain current subcontractor and vendor relationships and assist with expanding the company's MEP bidding network.
  • Support project turnover by clearly communicating estimate assumptions, scope, pricing, and subcontractor information to the project management team.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Building Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent MEP estimating or construction experience will be considered.
  • Experience estimating mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and/or fire protection scopes for commercial or industrial construction projects.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge of MEP systems, construction methods, materials, equipment, and subcontractor scopes.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing detailed construction cost estimates.
  • Ability to evaluate subcontractor proposals and identify scope gaps, exclusions, and pricing discrepancies.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with subcontractors, vendors, estimators, project managers, and field personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and construction estimating/takeoff software.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
