Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Industrial Hygiene Specialist opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN

Job Summary:

The Industrial Hygiene Specialist will play a critical role in supporting a safe and healthy workplace. This position provides hands-on industrial hygiene support for field and facility operations, with an emphasis on identifying, evaluating, and controlling occupational health hazards. The Industrial Hygiene Specialist will spend time in operational work areas conducting exposure assessments, monitoring work activities, collecting samples, and evaluating field conditions. The position works closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and management personnel to ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with applicable regulatory and site requirements.

Responsibilities include:

• Provide day-to-day industrial hygiene support for facility, maintenance, construction, laboratory, and other field activities.
• Perform routine field observations and workplace assessments to identify chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments, including personal and area air sampling, noise monitoring, ventilation assessments, and other industrial hygiene surveys.
• Set up, calibrate, operate, and maintain industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring equipment.
• Perform pre-job and ongoing field evaluations of work activities with potential occupational health exposures.
• Observe work in progress to verify established exposure controls, PPE requirements, and safe work practices are being properly implemented.
• Evaluate changing field conditions and provide timely recommendations when additional controls or protective measures are warranted.
• Document field observations, monitoring activities, sampling results, and exposure assessment information.
• Support field implementation of engineering controls, administrative controls, respiratory protection, and other PPE requirements.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOE, and other applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Maintain required industrial hygiene records and documentation and provide technical support during audits and inspections.
• Participate in incident investigations, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments involving occupational health hazards.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, maintenance, and other teams to incorporate industrial hygiene requirements into work activities and process changes.
• Provide technical guidance on workplace exposures, PPE selection, corrective actions, and other measures to reduce occupational health risks.

Qualifications:

• Education or professional background in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
• 2+ years ES&H experience with an emphasis on industrial hygiene, preferably within a Department of Energy (DOE), manufacturing, laboratory, industrial, or similar highly regulated environments.
• Practical experience using air sampling equipment, noise dosimeters, industrial hygiene instrumentation, and occupational exposure monitoring methods.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, ACGIH TLVs, NIOSH criteria, and accepted exposure assessment and control practices.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate monitoring and sampling data and develop appropriate exposure-control recommendations.
• Effective communication, training, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and organizational levels.
• Experience using industrial hygiene software, electronic data management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
