Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Software Developer 3 - Senior Java/Spring Developer opportunity in Los Alamos, NM, to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The Software Developer 3 will lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of secure, high-quality applications in a fast-paced Agile environment. This senior-level professional will independently solve complex technical problems, influence application architecture, and provide technical guidance. Strong Java/Spring expertise is required, with Angular and MySQL experience desired.
Key responsibilities include:
· Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of secure Java/Spring applications.
· Define technical solutions and influence architecture across multiple applications.
· Guide Angular development, backend integration, and MySQL database design and optimization.
· Promote TDD, automated testing, code quality, and secure development practices.
· Lead Agile technical activities, including code reviews, sprint planning, and continuous improvement.
· Independently resolve highly complex application, integration, database, and performance issues.
· Evaluate requirements, select technologies and methods, and define implementation approaches.
· Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to deliver scalable, secure solutions.
· Mentor developers and provide technical direction and coordination as needed.
· Manage priorities, schedules, and technical initiatives across multiple applications with limited direction.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline and at least 8 years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Extensive professional software development experience using Java.
· Advanced experience with the Spring Framework / Spring Boot.
· Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting complex enterprise-level applications.
· Strong experience with test-driven development (TDD), unit testing, and automated testing methodologies.
· Experience providing technical leadership within Agile development teams.
· Ability to independently solve complex technical problems while adhering to stringent security requirements and development standards.
Desired Qualifications:
· Experience developing front-end applications using Angular.
· Strong working knowledge of MySQL, relational database concepts, and performance optimization.
· Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and web services.
· Experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices.
· Active DOE Q Security Clearance.
