Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Valve Subject Matter Expert opportunity in Johnson City, TN.

 

We are seeking a highly experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Industrial Valves with a strong background in mechanical design engineering. This role provides technical leadership, drives engineering excellence, and supports product development across a range of valve technologies used in industrial, energy, chemical, and process applications. The SME will serve as the organization’s go‑to authority for valve design, performance, standards, and lifecycle considerations, execution and operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Lead the mechanical design and engineering of industrial valves, including ball, gate, globe, check, butterfly, and specialty valves.

·        Provide expert guidance on material selection, stress analysis, sealing technologies, actuation, and flow performance.

·        Develop and review engineering specifications, drawings, models, and technical documentation.

·        Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards.

·        Conduct design reviews, failure analyses, and root‑cause investigations; recommend corrective actions and design improvements.

·        Support R&D initiatives, prototype development, and testing programs.

·        Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and field service teams to resolve technical challenges.

·        Mentor engineering teams and provide training on valve design principles, best practices, and emerging technologies.

·        Evaluate new technologies, materials, and design methodologies to enhance product performance and reliability.

·        Serve as a technical representative in customer meetings, audits, and industry forums.

 

Required Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent amount of years of experience.

·        20+ years of experience in industrial valve design, analysis, and engineering.

·        Deep knowledge of valve mechanics, fluid dynamics, materials engineering, and manufacturing processes.

·        Proficiency with CAD tools.

·        Strong understanding of industry codes and standards governing valve design and performance.

·        Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering projects and cross‑functional teams.

·        Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear guidance.

·        United States Citizenship

·        Ability to obtain and maintain required DOE and/or NRC security access authorization.
