Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Laboratory Manager opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.

 

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly organized and technically proficient Laboratory Manager to oversee laboratory operations supporting an industrial manufacturing project within the nuclear industry. This role is responsible for managing personnel, equipment, and testing protocols to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely analysis of materials and components. The ideal candidate will have experience in nuclear-regulated environments and a strong understanding of NQA-1 standards, analytical methods, and contamination control.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations of the laboratory, including workflow coordination
  • Oversee material testing, chemical analysis, and contamination control procedures for machine components
  • Ensure compliance with NQA-1, DOE, NRC, and internal quality standards
  • Maintain calibration and certification of laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols
  • Supervise laboratory technicians and provide training on testing methods and regulatory compliance
  • Review and approve test results, reports, and documentation for accuracy and traceability
  • Support audits, inspections, and customer reviews with technical documentation and data
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve material-related issues
  • Evaluate new testing technologies and methods to improve lab efficiency and capability

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field
  • 10+ years of laboratory experience, preferably in the nuclear industry.
  • 3+ years of experience in laboratory management.
  • Strong knowledge of analytical testing methods, contamination control, and quality assurance practices
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Engineering, or related field
  • Experience supporting DOE or NRC-regulated projects
  • Experience with NQA-1 and other nuclear regulatory standards
  • Certification in laboratory safety, quality systems, or analytical techniques
  • Knowledge of cleanroom protocols and environmental monitoring

 

Other Job Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security clearance. Active clearance is a plus.
