Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Radiological Engineer opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.

 

Job Summary:

The Radiological Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of radiological instrumentation and monitoring systems, with a strong emphasis on stack monitoring and airborne effluent measurement. This role ensures regulatory compliance, supports radiological safety programs, and provides technical expertise for radiation detection systems used in operational, environmental, and compliance monitoring.

 

Key Responsibilities:

·       Design, specify, evaluate, and maintain radiological instrumentation systems, including stack and effluent monitoring systems.

·       Provide technical oversight for the installation, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of radiation detection and measurement equipment (e.g., gamma, alpha, beta, and particulate monitoring systems).

·       Support continuous and periodic stack monitoring systems for airborne radioactive emissions, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., NRC, EPA, DOE).

·       Develop and review engineering documentation, including system designs, calculations, procedures, specifications, and technical reports.

·       Analyze radiological data from monitoring systems to assess performance, trends, and compliance with regulatory limits.

·       Interface with operations, health physics, environmental compliance, and maintenance teams to support safe and compliant facility operations.

·       Support audits, inspections, and assessments by regulatory agencies and internal oversight organizations.

·       Provide technical input for system upgrades, modernization projects, and new facility designs involving radiological monitoring.

·       Assist with failure analysis, corrective actions, and root cause evaluations related to radiological instrumentation issues.

·       Ensure quality assurance and configuration management requirements are met for radiological monitoring systems.

 

Basic Qualifications:

·       Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in Health Physics, engineering, or related technical field, opr equivalent combination of education and experience.

·       5 to 20+ years of relevant experience.

·       Working knowledge of radiation detection instrumentation, applied radiation protection principles, and monitoring airborne radioactivity is required.

·       Working knowledge of applicable radiological regulations and standards.

·       Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and regulatory requirements.

·       Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.

·       Experience supporting nuclear facilities, laboratories, or radiological operations.

·       Familiarity with continuous air monitors (CAMs), isokinetic sampling systems, and effluent monitoring instrumentation.

·       HSPD-12 PIV badge: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
