Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Electrical Safety Officer (SME I/II) opportunity in Los Alamos, NM, to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

 

Per diem for long-term travel and travel to Los Alamos as needed.

Citizenship: United States Citizenship is required

Work Location: Onsite

Organization/Group: ALDPI/PROJ-EXE

Travel: To Los Alamos for onboarding/and meetings as needed.

Schedule: 4/10s

Clearance: Active DOE Q Clearance preferred, must be able to obtain and maintain.

 

Summary:

The Electrical Safety Officer at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is responsible for overseeing the Electrical Safety Program, providing expertise in electrical safety, and serving as the primary contact for electrical safety-related concerns. This role involves providing electrical safety support to construction projects, working directly with project managers, craft, work planners, and field professionals to ensure effective implementation of electrical safe work practices, conducting incident investigations, leading safety assessments, and collaborating with various teams to ensure compliance with safety standards. The position requires advanced knowledge in electrical engineering and safety protocols, and candidates must have excellent communication, collaboration, leadership, and technical problem-solving skills.

 

Duties:

  • Serve as the primary contact on electrical safety and administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
  • Act as a resource for LANL employees and managers regarding electrical safety concerns.
  • Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes, developing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Perform workplace condition inspections to identify electrical hazards in various environments.
  • Lead reviews of Integrated Work Documents (IWD) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Contribute to the development of codes, standards, and specifications for electrical equipment safety.
  • Provide advanced support to engineers/scientists in solving complex technical problems.
  • Participate in the evaluation of controlled items and services for compliance with electrical safety requirements.
  • Perform calculations to determine electrical severity scores for incidents.
  • Develop written electrical safety policies, procedures, and design standards.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS and 2 to 7 years of field experience (or equivalent combination of education and/or experience).
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical safety standards, including NFPA, IEEE, and OSHA, particularly NFPA 70E.
  • Experience with electrical engineering/technology in various applications such as low-voltage AC and DC systems.
  • Significant experience with personal computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated expert communication and organizational skills for presenting complex technical information.
  • Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements for field work and to traverse through job site.
  • Ability to work in RAD area.
  • Previous experience in a DOE CAT II Nuclear Facility
