Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Engineer (Welding) opportunity to support the Savannah River Site.

Mechanical Engineer (Welding)-

Seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in welding engineering and underground utilities construction. This role will support the engineering, fabrication, and installation of underground piping systems and utility infrastructure. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing weld maps in accordance with the project code of record, fabrication drawings, and applicable welding standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of welding processes, underground piping systems, and construction execution practices.


Duties:


  • Develop and prepare detailed weld maps in compliance with: Project code of record; Fabrication drawings; and Applicable welding standards (ASME, AWS, API, etc.)
  • Review and interpret piping isometrics, IFC drawings, P&IDs, and shop fabrication drawings.
  • Ensure welding procedures align with project specifications and industry codes.
  • Coordinate with field construction teams, inspectors, and subcontractors to ensure weld traceability and compliance.
  • Review and verify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
  • Assist in resolving field welding issues, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical oversight for underground piping installations including water, sewer, steam, gas, or process piping systems.
  • Support QA/QC documentation, turnover packages, and as-built records.
  • Collaborate with project management on schedule coordination, procurement tracking, and fabrication status.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company standards.
  • Experience preparing weld maps and managing weld traceability systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret piping drawings, isometrics, and fabrication documents.
  • Understanding of NDE methods and inspection requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction document control systems.


Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline and at least five (5) years of practical experience in construction engineering or related areas with weld map experience OR an associate's degree and seven (7) years of practical experience would be considered equivalent OR a high school diploma and ten (10) or more years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent.
  • Five (5) + years of experience in welding engineering, piping systems, or underground utilities construction.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure or underground utility projects.
  • Experience of working with municipal, industrial, or energy sector clients.
  • Familiarity with project QA/QC programs and inspection documentation.
  • Knowledge of underground installation methods to include trenching, shoring, HDD, and backfill practices.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to obtain & maintain a DOE “Q” clearance (an active clearance is not required to perform assigned duties).
