Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an ES&H Specialist opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.

 

Position Summary:

The Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Specialist provides technical oversight and compliance support for a nuclear program involving advanced mechanical manufacturing operations. The incumbent ensures that work activities are planned and executed in accordance with applicable environmental, safety, health, and regulatory requirements. This position serves as a key liaison between operations, engineering, and management to promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and monitor ES&H programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and site-specific requirements.
  • Support hazard identification, job hazard analyses, and work planning activities for manufacturing and engineering operations.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, safety walkthroughs, and compliance assessments; document findings and corrective actions.
  • Provide ES&H guidance to engineering and operations personnel during process development, equipment installation, and production activities.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; perform root-cause analysis and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Review and approve work packages, procedures, and permits from an ES&H perspective.
  • Support environmental compliance activities, including waste management, chemical control, and spill prevention.
  • Deliver ES&H training and promote safe work practices across the organization.
  • Interface with regulatory authorities, auditors, and internal oversight organizations as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is desired.
  • Experience supporting ES&H programs in manufacturing, industrial, or regulated environments.
  • Working knowledge of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental compliance principles.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and briefings.
  • Experience in nuclear, aerospace, defense, or other safety-critical industries is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify hazards and implement practical, effective risk controls.
  • Strong field presence with the ability to engage craft, engineering, and management personnel.
  • Independent judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous improvement and safety culture.

  • United States Citizenship
  • Active Q Clearance (preferred) or ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance
