JOB SNAPSHOT
The Controller is responsible for leading the accounting and financial reporting functions of the company while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information. We are seeking a growth-minded individual with a strong work ethic and passion for continuous improvement. This role oversees the accounting team, develops efficient processes and internal controls, partners with operational leaders, and provides financial insight to support business decisions in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
● Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
● Prepare and review financial statements.
● Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
● Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
● Coordinate annual audit and tax preparation.
Construction Accounting
● Oversee WIP schedules & monthly AIA billings.
● Review job cost reporting and project profitability.
● Support project managers with financial analysis.
● Ensure accurate revenue recognition.
Cash Management
● Manage cash flow forecasting.
● Review bank reconciliations.
● Approve vendor payments and check runs.
● Monitor company credit card programs.
● Oversee positive pay and banking relationships.
Team Leadership
● Manage human resource functions with HR Generalist including payroll, 401k plan, employee benefits, workers comp and employment related issues.
● Supervise and develop accounting & human resources staff.
● Conduct performance evaluations.
● Create training materials and standard operating procedures.
● Recruit, onboard, and mentor accounting personnel.
Internal Controls & Compliance
● Develop and improve accounting processes.
● Maintain strong internal controls.
● Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
● Assist with insurance audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
Business Partnership
● Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives.
● Prepare financial analyses and KPI reporting.
● Support budgeting and forecasting.
● Identify process improvements that increase efficiency and scalability.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED
● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or or 5-6 years relevant experience
● Must have at least 2 years experience in construction accounting.
● Thorough knowledge and skill in general accounting.
● Knowledge of AIA documents.
● Knowledge of the lien process.
● Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel.
● Experience using Timberline or Spectrum Accounting Software is a plus.
● Working knowledge of the construction industry.
● High level of organization and attention to detail.
● Ability to multitask.
● Excellent written and verbal communication is essential.
● Must be an energetic, flexible and motivated self-starter who is ready to work with a dynamic and growing team.
