Assistant Controller 

 

We are seeking an Assistant Controller in Phoenix, AZ

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist and support the financial and accounting results for AZ region
  • Assist and support may be necessary in CA region as well
  • Act as strategic business partner to Regional Controller and their teams
  • Monthly reporting of financial results 
  • Report evaluations of risks and opportunities for assigned projects
  • Participate and align with outcomes expected and/or exposures noted from profitability reviews
  • Evaluate provisions for claims/exposures with appropriate teams; assist in resolution as appropriate
  • Support the business with the annual 3 Year Business Planning 
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Advance/lead Finance initiatives supporting companywide improvements
  • Work with Regional Controller to review and managing key project financials 
  • Attend monthly review meetings, and support financial reporting
  • Maintain, update, and audit Work in Progress and backlog data
  • Monitoring overhead cost trends and investigate unusual trends
  • Participate in monthly/quarterly reviews
  • Review project cost reports anomalies and share any risks/reserves not reported or needed 
  • Monitor related insurance programs and their related projections 
  • Track and monitor labor productivity including the understanding 
  • Ensure project set-up is accurate in and in line with company 
  • Miscellaneous – data mining as needed 
  • Support monthly risk/reserve analysis for active projects
  • Assist in the development of financial statements based on booked and backlog work, projected labor hours and overhead trends  
  • Participate in internal/external audits 
  • Communicate and drive billing best practices with the accounting group 
  • Follow up with PM’s and accountants on timeliness of invoices and collections
  • Provide support for overall cash flow/position for each project 
  • Regular and thorough communication with Regional Controller 

 

Requirements:

 

  • Occasional travel required within the Southwest region
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills managing large amounts of data
  • Critical thinking with problem solving skills using research & analytics 
  • 7+ yrs accounting and finance support
  • Prior experience with consolidated reporting covering multiple projects 
  • Experience managing a team
  • Construction industry experience
  • BS in Accounting or related field 
  • Proficiency with accounting software applications
  • Knowledge in Oracle EPM a plus
