Position Summary

A well-established construction organization in the Denver metro area is seeking a Project Accountant to join its internal finance team. This role is a strategic backfill with long-term succession planning in mind, offering a clear growth path into a Controller-level position and potential executive leadership opportunity over time.

This is a hands-on accounting role focused on core construction accounting fundamentals—not finance analytics or FP&A. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and direct collaboration with project managers and operational leaders. The Project Accountant will work closely with executive leadership to ensure disciplined project-level accounting, accurate financial reporting, and strong AR/AP oversight.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting
  • Oversee percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Support and participate in the monthly close process
  • Oversee and manage Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions
  • Assist with collections in partnership with Business Development and project teams
  • Collaborate directly with project managers to understand job progress and financial performance
  • Ensure GAAP-compliant accounting practices across all projects
  • Maintain strong visibility into billing, job costs, labor allocation, and project profitability
  • Provide financial insight to leadership to support operational decision-making

Long term, this individual may take on broader leadership responsibilities across AR, AP, and accounting operations as they develop toward a Controller-level role.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles
  • Direct experience with:
  • WIP reporting
  • Percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Monthly close processes
  • AR/AP oversight
  • Solid understanding of GAAP principles
  • Comfort interacting directly with project managers and production teams
  • Detail-oriented, hands-on accounting mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation (preferred but not required)
  • Prior experience in a construction environment
  • Leadership exposure or desire to grow into a Controller role
  • Experience supervising or overseeing AR/AP functions

What You Get

  • Clear long-term growth opportunity (Controller path with potential executive progression)
  • Direct mentorship from senior financial leadership
  • Stable, well-established construction organization with long-term track record
  • Hands-on exposure to both operational and financial leadership
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture
  • Competitive compensation with profit-sharing opportunity
