Position Summary
A well-established construction organization in the Denver metro area is seeking a Project Accountant to join its internal finance team. This role is a strategic backfill with long-term succession planning in mind, offering a clear growth path into a Controller-level position and potential executive leadership opportunity over time.
This is a hands-on accounting role focused on core construction accounting fundamentals—not finance analytics or FP&A. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and direct collaboration with project managers and operational leaders. The Project Accountant will work closely with executive leadership to ensure disciplined project-level accounting, accurate financial reporting, and strong AR/AP oversight.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting
- Oversee percentage-of-completion accounting
- Support and participate in the monthly close process
- Oversee and manage Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions
- Assist with collections in partnership with Business Development and project teams
- Collaborate directly with project managers to understand job progress and financial performance
- Ensure GAAP-compliant accounting practices across all projects
- Maintain strong visibility into billing, job costs, labor allocation, and project profitability
- Provide financial insight to leadership to support operational decision-making
Long term, this individual may take on broader leadership responsibilities across AR, AP, and accounting operations as they develop toward a Controller-level role.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
- 3–5 years of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles
- Direct experience with:
- WIP reporting
- Percentage-of-completion accounting
- Monthly close processes
- AR/AP oversight
- Solid understanding of GAAP principles
- Comfort interacting directly with project managers and production teams
- Detail-oriented, hands-on accounting mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation (preferred but not required)
- Prior experience in a construction environment
- Leadership exposure or desire to grow into a Controller role
- Experience supervising or overseeing AR/AP functions
