Core Responsibilities
This role typically reports to the Project Manager and may have direct reporting responsibility to the Construction Superintendent, depending on the project. Collaboration with company Executives is also common.
When managing projects, safety comes first, communication is key, and active participation in all construction activities is expected. Project types include higher education facilities, sporting venues, hospitality, correctional, industrial, and joint venture engagements.
Day-to-Day Activities
- Review, analyze, and resolve design and construction problems and discrepancies.
- Interact with client representatives, A/E representatives, and contractors as needed.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with project schedules and contract requirements.
- Provide technical support to identify cost-effective and schedule-efficient construction methods.
- Manage engineering procedures and document control functions.
- Track and maintain material procurement.
- Maintain design documents to align with on-site construction progress.
- Assist with schedule maintenance, monitoring adherence, and identifying potential issues.
- Resolve field problems to ensure construction quality and adherence to specifications.
- Represent the company in client, A/E, and contractor meetings.
- Confirm contract and purchase order scope compliance.
- Manage submittal tracking, project logs, coordination, and documentation; maintain official project files.
- Perform additional assignments at the direction of the Supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2-6 years of relevant construction engineering experience.
- Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, building codes, and standards.
- Strong understanding of interdependence between functional units within construction projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with construction software, including Prolog Sky, Bluebeam, Textura CPM, Sage Construction and Real Estate, and Primavera P6.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Deep familiarity with construction documents and technical aspects of all construction disciplines.
- Ability to provide technical input in support of field activities.
- Self-directed with minimal supervision required.
- Experience training and mentoring junior engineers.
