The Senior Estimator in Commercial Construction is responsible for leading the preparation of accurate and
competitive cost estimates for large-scale commercial projects. This role involves analysing drawings and
specifications, soliciting subcontractor bids, evaluating project risks, and developing detailed proposals. The Senior
Estimator collaborates with preconstruction, project management, and executive teams to support bid strategies and client presentations. Strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and attention to detail are essential for success in this leadership role.
Responsibilities
▪ Shape Projects from Start to Finish: Review proposal requirements, provide risk analysis input, determine scopes
of work and required contents of estimate. Provide early input on manpower and resource needs for self-perform
trades.
▪ Bring Visions to Life: Develop conceptual, self-perform, hard bid, and GMP estimates for diverse, complex projects.
▪ Go Beyond the Numbers: Leverage historical data, subcontractor input, and productivity metrics to create and refine detailed quantity take-offs and man-hour-based estimates.
▪ Collaborate Seamlessly: Partner with preconstruction teams to provide constructability reviews, schedule input,
value engineering, and target value delivery support.
Qualifications
▪ Education & Experience: A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred,
with at least 8 years of estimating experience on commercial and institutional projects (up to $150 million).
▪ Project Expertise: Preferred candidates will have experience estimating projects in sectors such as healthcare, life
sciences, higher education, and food & beverage manufacturing. A background in self-perform work and at-risk
GC/CM delivery methods is highly valued.
▪ Process Proficiency: Strong grasp of estimating techniques, cost control systems, and engineering disciplines.
▪ Critical Thinking: Ability to navigate complexity, innovate solutions, and drive success through informed decision making.
