Location: United States (extensive travel required)



Compensation: $150K+ base salary, plus incentive compensation and comprehensive benefits


Position Summary:


Our client is a privately held U.S. construction and infrastructure contractor specializing in pipeline rehabilitation and underground construction using trenchless technologies. The firm is seeking an experienced National Business Development Manager to support continued growth across public-sector and alternative delivery markets.


This role is responsible for developing and maintaining senior-level relationships with federal, state, and municipal agencies, engineering firms, and industry partners nationwide. The National Business Development Manager will lead targeted business development initiatives in coordination with regional business development leaders, area managers, and regional vice presidents, with a focus on strategic pursuits, partner alignment, and long-term market positioning.


The position is field-based and requires significant domestic travel, including frequent overnight travel of up to three weeks per month.



Key Responsibilities:


  • Ensure business development activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Advise executive leadership and regional management on growth strategies, market entry, and pursuit planning
  • Lead alternative delivery pursuits, providing strategic guidance on teaming, partner selection, and pursuit strategy
  • Support proposal development, bid strategies, and market intelligence efforts for priority opportunities
  • Represent the firm at national trade shows, industry conferences, and professional organizations (including DBIA), as directed by the VP of Business Development
  • Serve as a subject matter resource and coach to regional teams on public-sector and industry relationship development
  • Develop and maintain senior-level relationships with owners, engineers, and strategic partners
  • Assist in identifying, qualifying, and closing new business opportunities across regions
  • Act as an internal advisor to the VP of Business Development and cross-functional leadership teams on business development initiatives
  • Prepare departmental budgets and forecasting materials as requested



Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in business development or sales within construction or infrastructure services
  • Demonstrated success developing and sustaining long-term relationships with public-sector owners and engineering firms
  • Extensive experience negotiating contracts and leading complex, strategic pursuits
  • Background in heavy civil, underground, pipeline, or specialty construction environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline required
  • Master of Business Administration preferred
  • Professional credentials such as Professional Engineer (PE), DBIA certification, or similar technical certifications strongly preferred
  • Strong capabilities in public speaking, executive-level presentations, contract negotiations, and technical writing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CRM platforms
