Marquee Arts is the nonprofit organization that operates the historic Michigan and State Theaters in downtown Ann Arbor. With a mission to inspire, educate, entertain, and build community through the power of cinema and the performing arts, Marquee Arts presents a robust slate of first-run, international, documentary, classic, and independent films, along with live events, educational programming, and community engagement initiatives.


Marquee Arts is looking for dynamic individuals with a passion for cinema and customer service to join their Front of House Team as a Team Member.


Summary: The Team Member assists the management team in the operations of the theater and enhances the theater experience for our guests by providing an exemplary guest experience. These efforts include customer service and guest relations, ensuring a comfortable and clean environment, and other duties in support of the mission of Marquee Arts.


Essential Duties Include:

  • Customer service and guest relations; greeting guests, directing guests, educating guests about concession inventory, movies, rating systems, promotions, etc.
  • Accurately processing cash and credit card transactions.
  • Monitoring of theater environment; safety compliance, cleanliness, inventory, etc.
  • Stocking of inventory.
  • Upholding and administering all Marquee Arts policies; time and attendance policy, dress code, code of conduct, food preparation and safety procedures, etc.
  • Changing marquee and upkeep of marquee letters.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Work Environment: The work is primarily indoors within a theater building(s) and may have some exposure to fumes, odor, dust, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This role requires walking and standing for extended periods of time. This role also regularly requires reaching, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing stairs. Extended computer use is required (point of sale system). The employee will regularly lift and/or move items that weigh up to 50 pounds.


Required Education and Experience:

  • One to three months of related experience and/or training.
  • Must be at least 15-years old and obtain a work permit from a qualified institution.
  • Applicants must be able to pass training programs and obtain food handling and alcohol service permits, if applicable.
  • Proficiency in basic computer systems.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as work collaboratively and diplomatically with others.
  • Strong decision-making skills, problem solving skills, customer service skills, technical skills, attention to detail and organization, and energetic and driven.


Preferred Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent. A passion for community, history, public storytelling, cinema and the arts.


Compensation and Benefits Information:

  • This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position
  • Pay Rate: $14.00 per hour +tips

  • On-site position
  • Must have availability to work weekends: will be scheduled for at least 2 weekend shifts on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday.
  • Must have availability work some or all of the holidays (holiday pay is 1.5 times the regular pay rate)
