SAFETY MANAGEMENT EXPERT

About the role

AirNav Ireland is seeking a Safety Management Expert to provide safety management systems (SMS) expertise, support and advice across the organisation. You will help embed consistent, effective risk management practices and drive continuous improvement across Ireland's air navigation service provider, partnering with operational units to meet strategic ATM safety objectives and evolving regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

- Advise, train and provide critical review on safety risk assessment and endorsement activities for System Safety Case Reports

- Develop, update and review the Safety Management Manual and SMS processes to ensure regulatory compliance and industry best practice

- Implement the Work Programme set by the Head of Safety Management to achieve the Corporate ATM Safety Strategy's goals

- Support operational units in SMS development to meet Single European Sky requirements

- Support the Safety Investigation Manager in reviewing draft occurrence reports, including severity classification and causal analysis

- Act as an SMS internal auditor, tracking and overseeing Audit Findings and Recommendations

- Coordinate between Unit Safety Managers, SMU, Standards and Procedures, and the IAA to ensure SMS is applied consistently across the organisation

- Support Operational Safety Surveys, including NOSS observational surveys

- Track and monitor Unit Safety Management Committee activity on behalf of the Head of Safety Management

- Represent AirNav Ireland at international fora, working groups and safety tool user groups as required

Reports to the Head of Safety Management

Essential requirements

- Third level qualification at degree level, or an equivalent professional qualification

- Minimum 3 years' experience in aviation or an equivalent safety critical industry

- Experience in safety assessments, analysis, reporting, recommendations and follow-up

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including report writing, interviewing and presenting

- Ability to analyse information quickly, critique data logically and make reasoned judgements

- Understanding of just culture and the importance of confidentiality

- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Desirable

- Knowledge of Safety Management Systems and Fatigue Risk Management Systems

- Completed SMS and/or Human Factors related training

- Working knowledge of audit processes and ISO 9001 standards

- Experience delivering training or presentations

- Track record of positive engagement with internal and external stakeholders
