Position Overview
A leading procurement and advisory organization is seeking an experienced Director of Design & Construction Procurement to lead strategic sourcing initiatives across complex capital projects.
This individual will serve as a senior advisor to clients, developing procurement strategies across the design and construction lifecycle while identifying savings, improving supplier performance, and strengthening project delivery.
The ideal candidate brings direct experience across construction, architecture, engineering, capital projects, or construction procurement, combined with strong sourcing and stakeholder management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead procurement and category strategies across Design & Construction programs, aligning sourcing priorities with client business and capital project objectives.
- Advise senior client stakeholders on market conditions, supplier strategies, cost opportunities, contracting approaches, and procurement risk.
- Develop category plans using spend analysis, supplier assessments, market intelligence, and project requirements.
- Lead or oversee competitive sourcing events, supplier evaluations, commercial negotiations, and contract recommendations.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, cost avoidance, supplier consolidation, and improved commercial terms.
- Evaluate procurement opportunities throughout the capital project lifecycle, from early planning and design through construction, commissioning, and turnover.
- Partner with procurement, finance, legal, project management, and business teams to ensure sourcing strategies support project objectives.
- Manage relationships with key suppliers and contractors while driving accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
- Establish and monitor KPIs related to savings, supplier performance, sourcing activity, risk, and overall client value.
- Help develop procurement playbooks, operating procedures, sourcing tools, and scalable best practices across Design & Construction engagements.
- Utilize emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to improve sourcing analysis, workflow efficiency, and project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- 10+ years of experience within Design & Construction, Architecture, Engineering, Capital Projects, Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, or Project Advisory Consulting.
- Strong knowledge of the Design & Construction supply chain and capital project lifecycle.
- Demonstrated experience developing sourcing strategies and managing complex procurement initiatives.
- Experience negotiating significant supplier, contractor, or professional services agreements.
- Ability to advise and influence senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience within healthcare, life sciences, higher education, retail, or similarly complex environments is beneficial.
- Familiarity with highly regulated construction environments, including California, is preferred.
- Strong financial, analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Comfortable balancing strategic advisory responsibilities with hands-on execution.
