Position Summary:

We are placing a Director of Indirect Procurement – IT on behalf of a healthcare services organization based in the Palo Alto area. This is a senior individual contributor and leadership role focused on strategic sourcing across IT spend categories including Software, IT Services, Telecom, and Hardware. The role reports to a Managing Director of Sourcing and Procurement and sits within a client-facing delivery team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute cost savings and strategic sourcing initiatives while maintaining supplier performance and business continuity
  • Manage spend, supplier, and market data to identify savings opportunities and analyze value chain impacts
  • Lead end-to-end RFI/RFP processes including vendor outreach, Q&A, results analysis, and award recommendations
  • Drive annual productivity improvements by optimizing total cost of ownership (TCO) across managed categories
  • Develop and implement procurement policies, procedures, and operational change management initiatives
  • Lead and support sourcing events, vendor negotiations, and new supplier onboarding
  • Build and maintain category roadmaps and expand e-procurement catalog coverage
  • Conduct research and analytics to validate savings projections and sharpen negotiation positioning
  • Review major contracts and serve as SME for complex negotiations and re-supply modeling; develop procurement playbooks for cyclical spend
  • Track savings performance by category, sub-category, and supplier; maintain PPV trackers for price baseline analysis
  • Communicate sourcing strategy and procurement transformation goals to senior client stakeholders across business units
  • Build and manage relationships with best-in-class suppliers; implement supplier management and continuous improvement frameworks
  • Work cross-functionally to deliver cost savings, risk mitigation, and supplier-enabled innovation


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 10+ years of experience in indirect/non-clinical procurement, vendor management, and strategic sourcing with deep expertise in IT categories (Software, IT Services, Telecom, Hardware)
  • Experience managing category spend exceeding $200MM annually
  • Proven track record in category strategy development, contract negotiation, and TCO modeling
  • Strong change management skills with the ability to build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Solid understanding of supplier ecosystems, competitive markets, and contract/business issues
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with strong attention to detail
  • High proficiency in Excel (financial analysis) and PowerPoint (executive presentations)
  • Experience with eProcurement system implementation and adoption is a plus
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong commitment to client service
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills
