Director, Indirect Procurement - Corporate Services

Location: Sacramento, CA / Greater Bay Area

Work Model: Hybrid; onsite approximately 2–3 days every other week

Position Overview

We are partnering with a leading healthcare organization to identify an experienced Director of Indirect Procurement - Corporate Services. This is a senior, client-facing procurement leadership role responsible for developing and owning category strategy across key corporate services spend areas while driving measurable cost, operational, and supplier-performance outcomes.

The ideal candidate brings significant strategic sourcing and category management experience within a healthcare system or provider environment. This role requires someone who understands the complexity of healthcare operations and can effectively partner with senior stakeholders across procurement, finance, legal, operations, and other business functions.

This is not a pharmaceutical or biotech procurement role. Candidates should have direct experience supporting a hospital, health system, integrated delivery network, or comparable healthcare provider organization, ideally with exposure to areas such as revenue cycle, contingent labor/workforce solutions, or other enterprise corporate services.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and develop comprehensive category strategies across assigned Corporate Services spend areas, including market analysis, spend assessment, supplier strategy, risk management, and multi-year planning.
• Serve as a strategic procurement advisor to senior healthcare stakeholders, translating organizational priorities into actionable sourcing and category plans.
• Lead annual and long-range category planning, establishing savings opportunities, value targets, timelines, KPIs, and execution roadmaps.
• Oversee complex sourcing initiatives, supplier evaluations, commercial negotiations, and contract strategies.
• Partner across procurement, finance, legal, operations, and business leadership to build alignment and drive sourcing decisions.
• Manage and strengthen strategic supplier relationships while identifying opportunities for cost optimization, service improvement, innovation, and risk reduction.
• Provide governance and strategic direction to centralized sourcing and procurement resources responsible for executing category initiatives.
• Monitor category performance across savings, cost avoidance, supplier performance, service levels, contractual outcomes, and broader business value.
• Influence senior stakeholders in a complex, matrixed healthcare environment and help drive procurement transformation and organizational change.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, indirect procurement, category management, procurement consulting, or outsourced procurement services.
• Direct healthcare system/provider experience required.
• Strong understanding of procurement within a complex healthcare operating environment.
• Demonstrated experience owning Corporate Services category strategies and delivering measurable business outcomes.
• Experience with relevant healthcare corporate services categories; revenue cycle and/or contingent labor/workforce categories are particularly valuable.
• Proven success influencing executive and senior-level stakeholders across complex, matrixed organizations.
• Strong experience with strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, contract strategy, and vendor relationship management.
• Ability to combine strategic category leadership with oversight of day-to-day execution.
• Strong financial, analytical, communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
• Experience supporting procurement transformation, process improvement, or organizational change.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are particularly interested in candidates who have led indirect procurement or Corporate Services categories inside or directly supporting a major health system. Candidates coming exclusively from pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences manufacturing, or other non-provider healthcare environments will not align with the requirements of this search.

The successful candidate will be comfortable operating as both a strategic category leader and trusted advisor, bringing credibility with senior healthcare stakeholders while remaining close enough to execution to ensure sourcing initiatives deliver measurable results.

Travel / Onsite Expectations

This role supports a Sacramento-based healthcare organization and requires the ability to be onsite approximately 2–3 days every other week. Candidates may reside outside Sacramento provided they can reliably meet the onsite commitment.
