A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Director of Indirect Procurement – Facilities to lead strategic sourcing and category initiatives supporting a complex hospital environment.

This role requires a unique combination of facilities procurement expertise, healthcare knowledge, and client-facing advisory experience. The Director will partner with senior stakeholders to evaluate spend, develop category strategies, manage suppliers, and identify opportunities for measurable cost and operational improvements.

The ideal candidate understands the complexities of sourcing services that directly support hospital operations, patient environments, and Environmental Services (EVS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic sourcing and category management across facilities-related spend within a large healthcare environment.
  • Develop procurement strategies for categories including EVS, facilities services, maintenance, building operations, and other hospital support services.
  • Partner with facilities, operations, finance, clinical, and executive stakeholders to understand business requirements and sourcing priorities.
  • Analyze spend, supplier performance, market conditions, and service requirements to identify savings and operational improvement opportunities.
  • Lead competitive sourcing events, supplier evaluations, commercial negotiations, and contract recommendations.
  • Serve as a trusted procurement advisor, translating operational challenges into actionable sourcing strategies.
  • Manage complex supplier relationships and establish performance expectations, KPIs, and service-level requirements.
  • Evaluate sourcing decisions with consideration for patient experience, hospital operations, regulatory requirements, service continuity, and quality.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, cost avoidance, supplier optimization, and process improvement.
  • Support implementation of new contracts and supplier transitions while minimizing disruption to hospital operations.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, category management, or procurement consulting.
  • Significant experience managing Facilities and/or Environmental Services (EVS) categories.
  • Healthcare or hospital procurement experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the operational requirements associated with patient-facing healthcare facilities.
  • Experience working in a consulting, advisory, managed services, or highly client-facing procurement environment is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated success developing category strategies and leading complex sourcing initiatives.
  • Experience negotiating large supplier and service agreements.
  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on sourcing and execution.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Houston 2–3 days per week.

Ideal Background

The strongest candidates will bring a combination of healthcare facilities procurement and consulting/advisory experience. Experience sourcing EVS, hospital facilities services, maintenance, or other patient-environment support categories will be particularly relevant.

This position is best suited for someone comfortable working directly with senior healthcare stakeholders while also taking ownership of sourcing strategy, negotiations, supplier performance, and measurable cost improvements.
