Prompt Engineer, AI

Two Openings

We are partnering with a large, consumer-focused organization that is scaling generative AI across its digital products, starting with a high-traffic mobile app and AI chatbot. These roles exist because prompt quality is now a first-order problem for the business, directly impacting accuracy, safety, and user trust.

This is not a prompt tinkering role. These are production roles for engineers who know how prompts behave at scale, understand failure modes, and can turn generative AI into something reliable, reusable, and safe.

The Role

As an AI Prompt Engineer, you will focus on how humans interact with AI systems and how those interactions translate into consistent, high-quality outputs. Your work will sit directly in production systems and will influence how millions of interactions feel, behave, and perform.

You will design, test, version, and optimize prompts that power real applications, with a strong emphasis on retrieval-augmented generation, guardrails, and measurable improvement over time.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Design and optimize prompts for large language models to drive specific business outcomes
  • Build structured prompt frameworks that are reusable, scalable, and production-ready
  • Test and iterate on prompts systematically to improve accuracy, consistency, and usefulness
  • Implement prompt chaining and multi-step reasoning for complex AI tasks
  • Design and optimize retrieval-augmented generation systems that combine prompts with vector-based knowledge retrieval
  • Evaluate AI outputs against defined quality and safety criteria
  • Identify failure modes, edge cases, and inconsistencies and correct them through prompt design
  • Implement guardrails to protect against prompt injection, misuse, and unsafe outputs
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to integrate prompts into applications
  • Monitor prompt performance in production and apply versioning, experimentation, and A/B testing
  • Document prompt patterns, decisions, and outcomes so systems can scale beyond individual contributors
  • Stay current on LLM behavior, strengths, and limitations across different providers
  • Advise internal teams on effective prompt usage and best practices
  • Make informed decisions on prompt strategy, model usage, and optimization approaches

What Success Looks Like

  • AI interactions feel noticeably more natural, accurate, and helpful
  • Prompt systems are modular and reusable across multiple use cases
  • Guardrails are in place and actively protecting users and the business
  • Prompt changes are measured, versioned, and intentional
  • Collaboration with data science and architecture teams is tight and effective

What We Are Looking For

This role is designed for experienced prompt engineers who understand multiple language and systems.

You should bring:

  • 5 or more years of experience in AI, ML, NLP, or software development with hands-on work using LLMs
  • Proven production experience designing and optimizing prompts for generative AI systems
  • Deep understanding of LLM behavior, capabilities, and limitations
  • Experience with advanced prompting techniques such as few-shot learning and chain-of-thought
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate outputs and improve prompt performance
  • Experience building and operating retrieval-augmented generation systems
  • Hands-on work with vector databases, not just conceptual knowledge
  • Python experience for prompt automation, testing, or evaluation
  • Experience using LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Azure OpenAI
  • Understanding of AI safety, bias, and responsible AI practices
  • Comfort operating in environments with high data volume and evolving requirements

Experience across multiple LLM providers is strongly preferred. Vendor-agnostic thinking matters more than deep loyalty to a single platform.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, computational linguistics, data science, or a related field is required. A master’s degree, certifications, or a strong portfolio of prompt engineering work is a plus.

Who Thrives in This Role

Successful candidates care about precision, clarity, and impact. They enjoy shaping how AI behaves in the real world and take responsibility for outcomes, not just ideas. They understand that great prompts are engineered systems, not clever sentences.

If you enjoy improving how AI actually performs for users and want your work to ship, scale, and matter, this role is built for that.
