The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Accounting team through the month-end close process and ongoing financial operations. This individual is responsible for managing a variety of core accounting tasks while providing mentorship and guidance to junior team members. A deep understanding of accounting principles and operational processes is essential to thrive in this role.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations across areas including Cash, Accounts Receivable, Accrued Expenses, and Prepaid Assets. Provide detailed supporting schedules and variance analysis as needed.
- Maintain lease accounting records in compliance with ASC 842 guidelines.
- Compile and distribute monthly internal financial reporting packages for use by leadership and operational teams.
- Accurately file California sales tax returns and assess use tax liabilities on a timely basis.
- Conduct monthly reconciliation of e-commerce revenue streams and post necessary journal entries to ensure accuracy.
- Reconcile A/R activity and ensure accurate application of customer payments and invoices. Review aging reports and perform bad debt analysis regularly.
- Monitor and coordinate renewals of annual business licenses, permits, and other regulatory compliance requirements.
- Support the preparation of documentation and schedules for quarterly reviews and year-end financial audits.
- Generate ad hoc financial reports and perform targeted analysis based on departmental or leadership requests.
- Participate in cross-functional training to support departmental coverage needs and assist in creating or updating SOPs and process documentation.
- Uphold the company’s internal control policies and ensure confidentiality and integrity in all financial transactions.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and a willingness to research proper accounting treatments for non-standard transactions; familiarity with IFRS is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex information across all organizational levels.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, logical formulas).
- Solid analytical and critical thinking skills; must be comfortable working with large data sets to troubleshoot and reconcile discrepancies.
- Highly detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong team player with a positive, collaborative attitude and a commitment to supporting others across the organization.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year institution.
- 3–5 years of hands-on accounting experience with a strong foundation in the month-end close process, journal entry preparation, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Public accounting experience and/or CPA certification preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle Fusion or budgeting tools like PBCS is preferred but not required.
Compensation & Commitment
- Target salary range: $75,000–$85,000
- This is a 5-day onsite role—candidates must be comfortable committing to a full-time in-office schedule
