JOB DESCRIPTION
The Shipping Specialist is a hands-on leader responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing daily shipping and yard operations in a fast-paced warehouse environment. This role ensures shipments move safely, accurately, and on time while supervising hourly staff, maintaining operational flow, and resolving real-time challenges. The Shipping Manager plays a critical role in enforcing safety standards, maintaining high service levels, and supporting overall warehouse operations. This position is 100% onsite and requires comfort working in both indoor and outdoor operational environments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily shipping, yard, and pickup operations
• Complete daily operational planning and staffing preparation prior to the team’s start time (7:00–8:00 AM)
• Assign work, manage stations, and ensure staffing coverage across shipping and yard activities
• Monitor shipping timelines and customer urgency to ensure on-time and accurate shipments
• Remove operational bottlenecks and resolve same-day issues as they arise
• Ensure freight shipments are completed accurately, including verification of BOLs, pallet accuracy, and shipping documentation
• Enforce safety procedures and maintain a safe, compliant warehouse and yard environment
• Supervise, coach, and support hourly warehouse and shipping staff
• Maintain clean and organized shipping, pallet, and yard areas
• Perform Shipping Specialist and Removal Technician tasks as needed to support operations
• Coordinate on-site pickup days, transport days, and staging of transported items
• Review shipping paperwork and photos; audit processes for accuracy and compliance
• Support employee training, retraining, and performance monitoring
• Monitor customer service performance and assist in resolving shipping-related issues, including lost or damaged items
• Coordinate schedules, manage call-offs, and ensure adequate coverage for time-sensitive tasks
• Communicate operational updates, personnel feedback, and improvement recommendations to leadership
• Participate in special projects and support broader warehouse operations as needed
