Job Description (Role Overview)
A law firm is seeking an Attorney to join its Columbia, South Carolina office. This role is critical to addressing current capacity constraints while supporting the continued growth of the firm’s mortgage default and litigation practices.
This is a high-impact role created to address a critical capacity gap in the Columbia office, where senior leadership is currently managing a significant litigation workload. Take over complex litigation matters currently handled by senior leadership and manage them independently.
Essential Job Functions
- Manage litigation matters end-to-end, including motions, discovery, depositions, and trials as needed
- Handle foreclosure-related litigation and commercial litigation matters
- Support and improve foreclosure and bankruptcy workflows
- Address operational bottlenecks and improve process efficiency
- Reduce backlog and increase overall output
- Take ownership of complex matters currently managed by senior leadership
- Contribute to office growth, leadership, and team development
- Attend court appearances across South Carolina as required
Requirements
Education & Licensure
- Juris Doctor (JD) required
- Active South Carolina Bar licensure required
Experience
- ~3+ years of legal experience
- Mortgage default or creditors’ rights experience preferred
- Strong litigation experience required
Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to independently manage litigation matters
- Experience with case management systems
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams
Preferred Qualifications
- Creditor bankruptcy experience
- Trial experience
