Director of Project Management (Architectural Millwork / Commercial Construction)

The Opportunity: Director of Project Management


We are seeking a seasoned Director of Project Management to provide overall leadership and strategic direction for our Project Management department. This pivotal role ensures all custom millwork projects are executed safely, on time, on budget, and to specification. You will lead a team of 8 direct reports and report directly to CEO.


Location: On-site in Landover, MD 


Key Responsibilities:


Leadership & Oversight

Provide leadership and guidance to Project Managers, Project Engineers, and cross-functional partners.

Supervise diverse project teams, set expectations, and drive accountability across all phases of project execution.

Create and standardize SOPs across the PM team and hold the team accountable for start-to-end processes.

Lead, mentor, and develop project teams, fostering accountability and growth.


Project Execution & Financial Management

Oversee all aspects of project setup, scheduling, material procurement, installation, and closeout.

Develop, manage, and monitor project plans, budgets, scope, and resources.

Monitor finances to ensure each project meets profitability targets and that proper margins are maintained.

Manage projects proactively to direct the scope to a certain outcome.

Identify and manage risks, strategically mitigating issues before they affect cost, schedule, or quality.


Stakeholder Management & Improvement

Liaise with external stakeholders, including General Contractors (GCs), architects, and owners, to ensure successful project delivery.

Serve as the point of escalation for client issues.

Implement standardized PM processes and reporting, using platforms like Smartsheet and ERP systems.

Continuously evaluate operations to identify opportunities for improvement, reduce rework, and increase efficiency.

Support companywide Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.


Qualifications and Experience

Must-Haves


Experience: 7+ years of progressive project management experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.


Industry Background: Direct experience in the construction industry , specifically working with projects that are custom-built.


Financial Acumen: Strong math, financial, and analytical skills to monitor budgets and margins. Familiarity with progress billing and industry language.


Risk & Contracts: Deep experience mitigating risk through proactive planning , with a strong command of contract structures, terms, and compliance. Skilled in contract negotiation.


Leadership: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.


Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in relevant project management tools (Smartsheet, MS Project, ERP platforms, or similar). Experience with technology implementation and recommendations is key.



Nice-to-Have

Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related field.


Compensation and Benefits:


Base Salary: $140,000 - $160,000 


Bonus: up to 50% Base salary + Companywide Annual Bonus Program

Working Conditions


Schedule: 6 AM to 2:30 PM


Travel: Approximately 90% in the office, with 10% dedicated to visiting job sites.


Regular travel to project sites is required to monitor progress and ensure alignment with company standards.
