JOB SUMMARY

The Litigation Associate Attorney is a highly independent role responsible for managing matters end-to-end. This position is designed to immediately relieve a growing caseload by taking ownership of cases, communicating proactively with clients, and collaborating with support staff. The role is primarily remote but requires regular travel for court appearances throughout Northern Virginia.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Case Management: Independently manage approximately 30–50 active litigation matters.
  • Courtroom Advocacy: Handle court appearances, hearings, and trial preparation across various jurisdictions in Northern Virginia.
  • Legal Drafting: Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and legal correspondence.
  • Research: Conduct legal research using LexisNexis.
  • Client Relations: Maintain direct, proactive, and empathetic communication with clients.
  • Internal Collaboration: Delegate work effectively to paralegals and legal assistants and maintain accurate timekeeping (Clio preferred).

REQUIREMENTS

  • Licensure: Active Virginia or Maryland Bar license in good standing (Must be listed on resume).
  • Experience: Open to all levels of experience; however, a background in transferable legal fields is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong legal writing and research abilities.
  • Logistics: Reliable transportation for regular court appearances across Northern Virginia.
  • Disposition: A calm, thick-skinned, and client-empathetic communication style.
  • Independence: Ability to work with minimal handholding.

NICE-TO-HAVES

  • Exposure to family law, criminal litigation, estate planning, or VA disability matters.
  • Experience using Clio for case management.
  • Guardian ad litem / guardian authority experience.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base Salary: $85,000 – $120,000 (depending on experience).
  • Incentives: 40% origination credit on fully originated matters; 20% on partially originated matters; performance-based bonuses.
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance; 401(k); Paid Time Off (PTO) and sick leave.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily remote work environment.
  • Regular travel required for court appearances in Northern Virginia.
  • Standard litigation workload with independent case ownership.
