Financial Planning Specialist

Houston, TX · On-Site · Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Financial Planning Specialist to support our advisory team from behind the scenes. This is an internal, analytical role — not client-facing and not advisory in nature. The specialist will assist with generating financial plans using our proprietary systems and specialized software, support client account administration, contribute to daily office operations, and take on special firm projects.

The ideal candidate thrives on process, numbers, and structured problem-solving. This role offers a clear development track into an operations leadership position, along with firm-sponsored certifications (Series 65 and CFP).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Meeting & Planning Support

  • Prepare client meeting materials including reports, presentations, and follow-up communications
  • Input and analyze client data in planning software
  • Update and maintain accuracy across proprietary systems
  • Assist the advisory team in executing our financial planning framework with precision

Account Administration

  • Assist with account openings, transfers, contributions, and distributions, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Process money movements, beneficiary changes, and investment allocation adjustments
  • Maintain and update client records, account documentation, and internal reporting systems

Operations & Process Improvement

  • Support daily office operations and special firm projects as assigned
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency and elevate service quality
  • Utilize CRM software, financial planning tools, and portfolio management systems to optimize workflows
  • Track and manage work assignments in our CRM; participate in regular team huddles led by the Director of Operations

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Must-Have

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and meticulous attention to detail
  • Comfortable with numbers and math; analytical and detail-oriented
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Coachable, positive energy, and a genuine team-first attitude

Education & Experience

  • Entry-level or early-career preferred; a math-based degree (finance, economics, accounting) is helpful but not required
  • Interest in financial planning, wealth management, or the RIA space is a strong plus
  • No certifications required — the firm will sponsor the Series 65 and CFP for the right candidate
  • Experience with financial planning or CRM platforms is a plus (all systems taught in-house)

Nice to Have

  • A standout signal on the resume demonstrating operational rigor and the ability to perform under pressure
  • Growth-minded with interest in building a long-term career in operations leadership within the RIA/wealth management space
  • Prior experience at an RIA, family office, or wealth management firm in an operational or support capacity

THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR YOU IF…

  • You have strong client-facing or book-of-business ambitions
  • You are looking for a path to becoming a client-facing advisor
  • You are resistant to learning proprietary processes and systems
  • You bring negative energy or an uncoachable attitude

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 based on experience and overall fit
  • Series 65 and CFP certifications paid for by the firm
  • Medical insurance: 4 plans available; employer covers 50% of the lowest-deductible employee-only premium
  • Vision insurance: 100% of employee premium covered
  • Dental insurance: 100% of base plan employee premium covered
  • 401(k) with Safe Harbor match of 100% of the first 4% of elective contributions (eligible after 6 months)
  • 20 days PTO per year after 90 days (0–9 years of service); unlimited PTO with 15-day minimum at 10+ years
  • Personal sick days NOT deducted from PTO

WHY JOIN US?

  • Learn an enormous amount every day — exposure spans investments, tax, estate planning, insurance, and cash flow, all in one seat
  • Work-hard / play-hard culture with exceptional team cohesion and stability — everyone genuinely likes everyone
  • Clear development track into an operations leadership role as the firm continues to scale
  • The firm pays for your Series 65 and CFP — a real investment in your professional growth
  • Contribute meaningfully to a high-growth firm from day one

INTERVIEW PROCESS

  • Stage 1: 30–60-minute recorded video interview + Culture Index assessment
  • Stage 2: Video interview with the Director of Operations and firm leadership
  • Stage 3: In-person team lunch in Houston with final candidates
