POSITION OVERVIEW

The Interior Designer / Design Closer is a client-facing residential design role responsible for taking remodeling projects from signed design agreement through completed design development and final project close.

This individual receives warm, qualified projects directly from the company’s outbound sales team after the initial homeowner relationship and investment range have already been established. The Designer then becomes the primary relationship owner throughout the design process, guiding clients through layouts, selections, budgeting conversations, revisions, and final project approval.

The ideal candidate is passionate about residential design, enjoys working directly with homeowners, and is comfortable guiding clients through investment decisions without operating as a high-pressure hunter salesperson.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lead homeowners through the residential remodeling design process.
  • Conduct client-facing design consultations and selection meetings.
  • Develop cohesive interior design concepts for kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and whole-home remodeling projects. 
  • Guide homeowners through selections including:Cabinetry, countertops, flooring, tile, paint, backsplash, fixtures and finishes.
  • Participate in handoff meetings with outbound sales representatives, cabinetry designers, and drafting teams.
  • Collaborate closely with in-house cabinetry/millwork designers and draftsmen.
  • Manage approximately 5–7 active design projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain strong client relationships throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Assist clients through budget discussions and investment decisions.
  • Handle final paperwork and support project closing/deposit collection.
  • Coordinate revisions and updates throughout the design process.
  • Utilize CRM systems, drafting programs, and design software effectively.
  • Contribute to maintaining the department’s ~80% close rate.
  • Stay current on design trends, technology, and AI-driven tools within the industry.



REQUIREMENTS MUST HAVES

  • 5+ years of residential interior design experience
  • Strong residential design background in kitchens, bathrooms, or full-home remodeling
  • Strong client-facing and relationship-building abilities
  • Comfortable leading one-on-one and small-group homeowner meetings
  • Outgoing, personable, and consultative communication style
  • Comfortable discussing budgets, pricing, and project investments
  • Comfortable with a consultative closing/sales component tied to commissions
  • Experience using drafting/design software such as: 20/20, ProKitchen,AutoCAD, Chief Architect or similar residential design platforms
  • Ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously
  • Strong organization and follow-through
  • Team-oriented and collaborative mindset
  • Tech adaptability and willingness to learn new systems/tools




NICE TO HAVES

  • Kitchen cabinetry design experience.
  • Experience designing: Windows,doors, decks, exterior siding projects. 
  • BuilderTrend experience. 
  • CRM experience (HubSpot or similar).
  • Experience within a design-build remodeling environment.
  • Freelance or independent residential design business background.
  • Prior consultative sales or closing experience.
  • AI-powered design tool interest/experience.
  • Residential drafting or space-planning knowledge




WORKING CONDITIONS


  • Location: Onsite in Clarks Summit, Scranton, Pennsylvania 
  • Schedule: Full-time with standard business hours plus occasional client-driven flexibility/evening meetings
  • Project Load: Managing approximately 5–7 active residential design projects simultaneously
  • Travel: Occasional local site visits; minimal regional travel required

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • $80K-$100K base + commissions + profit sharing + 401K + $7,500 sign-on bonus
  • Total Comp potential $100K - $300K/ yr
