JOB DESCRIPTION


The Account Manager for the Commercial Lines plays a critical role in managing and growing a book of business within the company. This position is responsible for owning the full renewal lifecycle, maintaining strong relationships with clients and carriers, and delivering tailored insurance solutions that align with each client’s risk profile and long-term goals.

This role operates as the primary point of contact for mid to large commercial accounts, acting as a strategic partner to clients while collaborating closely with Producers and internal support teams (CRA/CSR). The Account Manager ensures a high-quality client experience by proactively managing renewals, solving complex issues, and driving operational excellence across their book of business.


 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Book of Business Management: Take full ownership of a mid-to-large commercial book of business, ensuring client retention, satisfaction, and overall account health.
  • Renewal & Marketing Process: Lead the end-to-end renewal process including remarketing accounts to carriers, reviewing quotes, negotiating terms, and making strategic recommendations to Producers.
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as the main point of contact for clients, handling complex policy questions, problem-solving, and providing proactive risk management support.
  • Carrier & Market Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with insurance carriers to negotiate coverage, pricing, and optimize client outcomes.
  • Proposal & Presentation Development: Prepare and coordinate client-ready proposals, presentations, and documentation in collaboration with internal teams to support Producers in client meetings.
  • Team Coordination & Oversight: Delegate and manage workflows across Client Relationship Associates (CRA) and Client Service Representatives (CSR), ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and high service standards.
  • Accounts Receivable Oversight: Monitor and manage accounts receivable for assigned book, ensuring timely collections and financial accuracy.
  • Process & System Management: Utilize Applied Epic (or similar AMS/CRM systems) to manage workflows, documentation, and reporting with a high level of accuracy.

 


REQUIREMENTS


  • Active Insurance License (required)
  • 3–5+ years of experience in Commercial Lines Account Management
  • Proven experience managing the full renewal marketing process
  • Hands-on experience working with mid to large commercial accounts
  • Experience using an AMS/CRM system (Applied Epic preferred)
  • Strong client-facing experience with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain strong attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving and client advisory skills
  • Comfortable handling complex coverage scenarios and negotiations
  • High accountability and ownership mindset
  • Ability to lead workflows and support junior team members



NICE TO HAVE


  • Experience with Applied Epic
  • Exposure to complex coverages (Cyber, D&O, EPLI, Workers’ Comp, etc.)
  • Experience within niche or program-based insurance (e.g., hospitality, healthcare, security)
  • Prior experience supporting or mentoring junior team members (CRA/CSR)
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Industry designations (CIC, CPCU, etc.)



EDUCATION


  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. Equivalent professional experience in Commercial Lines insurance will be considered.



COMPENSATION PACKAGE


  • Base Salary: $75,000 – $100,000+ (depending on experience)
  • Bonus: Annual performance-based bonus tied to company results
  • Additional Upside: Potential for additional earnings if supporting new business generation

 


 WORKING CONDITIONS


  • Environment: On-site during the initial onboarding period (approximately 120 days), followed by a hybrid model (1–2 remote days per week depending on team).
  • Schedule: Standard working hours are approximately 8:45 AM – 4:45 PM, with a 1-hour lunch (35-hour work week).
  • Location: Hunt Valley, MD (candidates must be within a reasonable commuting distance).
  • Flexibility: Hybrid flexibility is available post-training based on performance and team structure.
