Commercial Finance Manager

Role Purpose
The Commercial Finance Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the financial and operational performance of the business. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the role will lead a small team consisting of a Commercial Finance Analyst and an IT/EPOS Manager.
This individual will act as a key business partner to senior stakeholders, providing strategic insight, financial analysis, and decision support to optimise profitability and enable informed commercial decisions. The role represents an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional to contribute to the ongoing growth and success of a fast-moving, multi-site organisation.
Main Responsibilities
- Acts as a strategic finance partner to department heads, providing robust financial insight, analysis, and challenge.
- Influences decision-making through evidence-based recommendations and performance insight.
- Leads the preparation and delivery of operational and commercial KPI reports for senior leadership.
- Works closely with the Operations team to monitor trading performance, manage margins, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Oversees pricing, margin, and promotional analysis to support revenue growth and profitability.
- Collaborates with procurement teams and suppliers to manage cost pressures, supply continuity, and risk exposure.
- Leads the budgeting, reforecasting, and long-term planning cycles, ensuring alignment with business strategy.
- Produces detailed monthly reporting packs with variance analysis and commentary for the executive team.
- Develops and maintains financial models to support investment appraisals, including new site openings and refurbishments.
- Analyses performance drivers such as sales mix, labour efficiency, and cost management.
- Implements a structured process for post-initiative reviews, assessing ROI and identifying learnings for future activity.
- Identifies opportunities to enhance profitability through operational efficiency and improved cost control.
- Leads finance system improvements and reporting automation initiatives.
- Designs and maintains dashboards and analytical tools that enable accessible, data-driven decision-making.
- Oversees the IT and EPOS Manager to ensure accuracy, reliability, and integrity of commercial data.
Candidate Profile
- 3–5 years of experience in a commercial finance or analytical role.
- Advanced Excel and data modelling skills, with confidence in handling complex datasets.
- Strong proficiency with BI or data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker a preference
- Experience within a multi-site, retail, or FMCG environment.
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA, or ACCA) preferred.
