Welder/Fitter – Heavy Structural Steel

A well-established steel manufacturer in the Hamilton area is looking to add experienced Welder/Fitters to its team. This is a hands-on fabrication role working with heavy structural steel and thick-gauge plate in a busy manufacturing environment.

Both Day and Afternoon shifts are available.

$27 - $33

What You’ll Be Doing

• Fit and weld heavy structural steel and plate components according to drawings and specifications
• Perform Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) on structural steel
• Complete structural fitting and fabrication work
• Read and interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings and fabrication drawings
• Interpret and apply welding symbols accurately
• Measure, lay out and prepare materials for fabrication
• Use tape measures and layout tools with a high level of accuracy
• Operate overhead cranes and assist with rigging and material handling
• Inspect completed work to ensure it meets drawing and quality requirements
• Follow all safety procedures and established welding practices

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience as a Welder/Fitter, Structural Welder, Steel Fitter or Fabricator
• Strong experience welding heavy/thick-gauge structural steel
• Proven Flux-Core (FCAW) welding experience
• Strong structural fitting and fabrication skills
• Ability to confidently read complex blueprints and shop drawings
• Strong understanding of weld symbols
• Ability to accurately fit, tack and weld components to specification
• Experience with overhead cranes and rigging
• Strong measuring and layout skills
• CWB certification is preferred
• Reliable, safety-focused and comfortable working in a heavy manufacturing environment
