Materials Planner

The Role
As the Materials Planner, you will be responsible for forecasting material requirements and ensuring the right materials are available to support production schedules over short- and mid-term planning horizons. You will work cross-functionally to manage demand fluctuations, monitor inventory, and proactively address material risks.
This role requires strong analytical thinking, system discipline, and the ability to communicate clearly with both internal teams and external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain material forecasts, accounting for fluctuations in demand
- Review production schedules and MRP outputs to determine raw material requirements over a 6–8 week planning horizon
- Monitor inventory levels and initiate replenishment activities as required
- Perform daily ERP/MRP system reviews to identify potential and actual material shortages
- Track order progress, material rejections, scrap, and rework to minimize production disruption
- Coordinate with purchasing, engineering, and operations to align material availability with production needs
- Communicate with suppliers regarding order status, delivery changes, and quantity adjustments
- Ensure inter-warehouse transfers are accurately recorded to maintain inventory integrity
- Verify that materials meet defined specifications and quality requirements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning accuracy and material flow
What You Bring
- Experience in materials planning, production planning, or supply chain roles within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of MRP / ERP planning logic and material flow
- Ability to interpret production schedules and translate them into actionable material plans
- Comfortable working with data, metrics, and system-driven analysis
- Strong communication skills when working with suppliers and cross-functional teams
- A proactive mindset with attention to detail and follow-through
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline — or equivalent practical experience
- Experience working with ERP / MRP systems (SAP experience is an asset; training may be provided)
- Knowledge of purchasing concepts, supplier coordination, and corporate supply chain objectives
- Experience coordinating with suppliers, freight, and logistics partners is preferred
