Job Title: Sr. Manager, Accounting
Location: Remote (open to individuals in Alberta or British Columbia)
Type: Permanent
Salary: $100,000–$120,000 annually, dependant on experience
We are partnered with a well-established, municipally owned organization operating within the broader public sector, providing essential infrastructure services across British Columbia.
The organization is seeking a Senior Manager, Accounting to provide leadership, technical oversight, and operational guidance across both functions. This role is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional who enjoys working in complex environments, leading teams, improving systems, and supporting organizational growth - while also being willing to engage with and learn HR oversight responsibilities.
This is a high-trust, high-impact leadership role reporting directly to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Accounting
- Oversee all accounting operations across a complex, multi-entity environment (20+ entities)
- Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in accordance with IFRS
- Manage consolidations, intercompany reconciliations, and partnership reporting
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
- Design, document, and strengthen internal controls and financial policies
- Act as primary liaison with external auditors
- Ensure compliance with tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements
- Lead and support system enhancements and integrations (including reporting tools and dashboards)
Human Resources Oversight
- Provide leadership and guidance to the HR function and HR Manager
- Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations
- Improve and standardize HR processes, documentation, and workflows
- Act as a senior advisor on HR-related matters as they arise
- Promote a transparent, respectful, and well-governed workplace culture
Systems, Process Improvement & Optimization
- Identify inefficiencies across Accounting and HR processes and implement sustainable improvements
- Leverage technology and automation to reduce manual work
- Develop dashboards, reporting tools, and performance metrics
- Ensure systems support audit readiness and strong internal controls
Leadership, Training & Mentorship
- Coach and mentor Senior Accountants and team members
- Build depth and succession within the team
- Support professional development and continuing education
- Promote accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience
- At least 5 years in a leadership or management role
- Strong IFRS expertise in complex, multi-entity environments
- Experience leading system implementations and process improvements
- Willingness and aptitude to oversee HR functions (direct HR management experience not required)
- Strong technical, analytical, and systems proficiency
- Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills
