Job Summary
The Plant Superintendent will report directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for overseeing safety, quality, on-time delivery, productivity, cost performance, employee training, and relations in a high-performance work team environment. The role involves monitoring production performance and implementing processes to improve results in a 24/7 plastics manufacturing facility. The Superintendent will also ensure regulatory compliance and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensure a safe work environment for all employees and lead safety programs to prevent injuries.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.).
- Motivate, support, and guide employees to foster engagement and high performance.
- Develop and train team members through education, coaching, and teamwork.
- Communicate issues and challenges to the plant manager and leadership team promptly.
- Establish workflow policies that improve efficiency without compromising safety or product integrity.
- Create and manage employee schedules to maintain optimal staffing levels.
- Assist in preparing the annual operating budget and achieve plant productivity, cost, and performance goals.
- Lead and participate in employee relations initiatives and address workplace issues in collaboration with HR.
- Hire, train, and mentor staff across diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S with safety, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen events.
- Coordinate production schedules to meet customer demand, manage overtime, control inventory, and reduce costs.
- Support quality initiatives to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Oversee quality checks and audits to maintain consistent performance standards.
- Build and maintain positive employee relations and promote a culture of accountability and growth.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and corrective action as needed, ensuring consistency and fairness in management practices.
- Identify, recommend, and implement capital projects to enhance plant performance and operational efficiency.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Confident in public speaking and training large groups of employees.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, including creating charts, graphs, SOPs, One-Point Lessons, and presentations.
- High level of integrity, trust, and ethical standards in all professional interactions.
- Flexible and dependable — able and willing to work overtime and adjust schedules to support all shifts.
Education / Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher required; Engineering or Plastics major preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of manufacturing or equivalent industrial experience.
- Proven history of successful leadership roles with demonstrated team management skills.
- Strong record of work ethic, reliability, and accountability in fast-paced environments.
