Work Schedule

The Respiratory Therapy department plays a key role in supporting patients of all ages with acute and chronic respiratory conditions in both inpatient and emergency/critical care settings. Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing safe, effective, and evidence-based respiratory care to patients ranging from neonates to geriatric adults. This role includes performing therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory procedures, assisting with ventilator and airway management, monitoring patient response to treatment, and collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, and other multidisciplinary team members. The ideal candidate is a licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Utah with NBRC credentials (CRT or RRT), at least one year of clinical respiratory therapy experience, and a strong commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence, and compassionate care. This is a full-time, in-person role based in a hospital or acute-care setting in Price, UT.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide therapeutic respiratory care to patients of all ages in accordance with physician orders, department protocols, and professional standards.
  • Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, including evaluation of breath sounds, work of breathing, oxygenation, ventilation, and response to current therapies.
  • Set up, initiate, and manage mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilation devices; adjust settings based on patient condition and physician orders.
  • Assist with emergency airway management, including intubation support, manual ventilation, and rapid response/code situations.
  • Administer oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and chest physiotherapy using appropriate devices, techniques, and safety precautions.
  • Perform diagnostic respiratory procedures such as arterial blood gas sampling, pulse oximetry, and other bedside tests; accurately interpret and report results within scope of practice.
  • Continuously monitor patients’ clinical status and therapy effectiveness; promptly recognize and report changes in condition to the care team.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop, implement, and modify patient care plans.
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use (e.g., inhalers, nebulizers, oxygen devices), and home care instructions as appropriate.
  • Document all assessments, treatments, patient responses, and communications in the electronic medical record in a timely, accurate, and complete manner.
  • Ensure proper operation, cleaning, and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment; report malfunctioning equipment and remove it from service as required.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards, including facility policies and applicable state/federal regulations.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, competency validations, and continuing education activities.
  • Assist with orientation and mentoring of new respiratory therapy staff and students as requested.
  • Support coverage of respiratory services across assigned units, which may include emergency department, intensive care, medical/surgical floors, obstetrics, pediatrics, and other clinical areas.


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Required

  • Thorough knowledge of respiratory therapy principles, practices, and current clinical guidelines for patients across the lifespan.
  • Proficiency in initiating and managing mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation modalities in both stable and critical care patients.
  • Ability to perform and interpret basic diagnostic procedures such as pulse oximetry, peak flow, bedside spirometry (if applicable), and arterial blood gas sampling within scope.
  • Strong understanding of oxygen delivery systems, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy techniques, including appropriate indications and contraindications.
  • Competence in emergency response situations, including code blue and rapid response events, with the ability to remain calm, focused, and effective under pressure.
  • Solid clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to recognize changes in patient condition and escalate care appropriately.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, and families.
  • Ability to provide clear patient and family education about respiratory therapies, devices, and home-care instructions using understandable language.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in treatment delivery, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Comfort using electronic medical records (EMR) and basic computer applications for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment with changing patient needs.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality, professional ethics, and compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, based on patient care needs.


Education / Professional Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program (Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist (hospital or acute-care setting strongly preferred).
  • Experience with ventilator management, emergency airway support, and care of critically ill patients preferred.
  • Experience working with neonatal and pediatric populations is a plus but not required.
  • Newer graduates with strong clinical rotations may be considered on a case-by-case basis if all licensure and credentialing requirements are met.


Licenses / Certifications

  • Current Utah Respiratory Care Practitioner license (required at time of hire).
  • Current NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential (required at time of hire; RRT preferred).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or equivalent – required within 90 days of hire (current certification preferred at hire).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required within 6 months of hire.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – required within 6 months of hire.
  • Additional specialty certifications (e.g., CPFT, RPFT, asthma educator) are a plus but not required.


Additional Information

  • Work environment includes hospital inpatient units, intensive care/critical care, and emergency/urgent care settings.
  • This position involves regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting or moving equipment and patients in accordance with safe patient-handling guidelines.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship may not be available for this role.
