Lead Magnetics Engineer – Define Next-Generation Magnetic Systems for Orbital Assembly!

Golden, Colorado | Onsite

Opportunity Summary

Hardware that builds itself in space requires a new kind of magnetic control. We're developing autonomous orbital structures enabled by precision electromagnetic interactions driving self-assembly, repositioning, and cooperative behavior in orbit. Magnetic systems are the foundation of this technology. The design choices you make will dictate how structures find each other, connect, and perform together under real mission conditions. As the lead expert for magnetics, you will design and scale the electromagnetic platform from simulation and modeling through full integration and flight readiness. This is an opportunity to take innovations like electro-permanent magnets (EPM) out of the lab and into orbit, becoming a critical architect of a brand-new category of space systems.

About Us

We are a fast-growing aerospace startup with strong investment support and a clear, near-term path to spaceflight. Our multidisciplinary team builds advanced hardware that autonomously assembles and adapts once deployed in orbit. Development moves quickly here. Ideas are tested early and often. The work you do will be essential to proving a revolutionary approach to infrastructure in space.

Job Duties

• Lead electromagnetic subsystem design enabling self-assembly, docking, and formation alignment

• Architect EPM-based attraction, retention, and actuation mechanisms tailored for orbital environments

• Simulate field characteristics to optimize force profiles, positioning accuracy, and energy efficiency

• Design magnetic assemblies, coils, driver electronics, and sensing strategies for vacuum conditions

• Develop and iterate prototypes with hands-on testing from lab evaluation through qualification

• Ensure performance across reliability, manufacturability, thermal management, and lifecycle requirements

• Work cross-functionally with GNC, structural, avionics, and software teams to integrate behavior seamlessly

• Support IP development and reduce risk across mission-critical magnetic functions

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and characterizing electromagnetic systems in relevant fields (robotics, industrial automation, advanced machinery, motor design, high-energy systems, or magnetic actuation)

• Demonstrated proficiency with EM modeling tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL, or FEMM

• Strong experimental experience driving magnetic system validation, force measurement, and control performance

• Ability to translate simulation-based concepts into compact, flight-ready hardware

• Experience leading development as a subject-matter authority

• Advanced degree required; PhD strongly preferred in a relevant discipline

Preferred Experience

• Hands-on development with electro-permanent magnets (EPM) or related hybrid magnetic technologies

• Familiarity with closed-loop actuation, driver circuits, and precision relative sensing

• Exposure to aerospace design standards, environmental qualification, or vacuum-rated hardware

• Success working in fast-moving environments where testing informs rapid iteration

Why Join Us

• Highly influential leadership role with significant system ownership

• The chance to take EPM and magnetic assembly from concept to orbit

• Competitive compensation with stock options

• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

• Strong PTO and a collaborative onsite culture

• Room to grow as our technology and product line expand

Compensation Details

$120,000 - $160,000
