Opportunity Summary

Join an early-stage defense technology company building advanced sensing and wireless security systems for demanding operational environments. The technology combines distributed hardware, real-time signal processing, and software to detect, locate, and track wireless devices inside secure facilities.

This role owns the software layer operators interact with every day. You will take an early prototype and turn it into a production-ready operations platform, building everything from backend data services to the real-time web interface and customer deployment architecture. The end user may be working an overnight shift in a high-security environment, so information needs to be clear, fast, reliable, and immediately actionable.

We are a venture-backed defense technology startup founded by former military operators who experienced firsthand the limitations of existing electronic warfare and sensing systems. The team now designs and builds its own hardware and software from the ground up, with systems already being evaluated and deployed by defense and government customers. The company is entering its next stage of technical maturity and production, giving early engineers significant ownership over both the product and the engineering foundation behind it.

Job Duties

• Own the development of a real-time operations dashboard for distributed sensing systems
• Display live detections, estimated device locations, movement tracks, alerts, and historical events across facility floor plans
• Design operator workflows for alert prioritization, acknowledgement, escalation, resolution, and shift handoff
• Build backend services that ingest and process continuous detection and location data from multiple sensing nodes
• Develop reliable real-time communication between backend systems and browser-based applications
• Build node-management tools covering system health, configuration, connectivity, and calibration status
• Implement authentication, role-based access control, audit trails, and event logging suitable for regulated environments
• Design deployments that can run entirely on customer-controlled infrastructure with limited or no internet connectivity
• Extend secure software update capabilities into on-premises and air-gapped environments
• Build installation, configuration, monitoring, and upgrade processes that do not depend on cloud infrastructure
• Work directly with pilot users to understand how operators interact with the system and rapidly improve workflows based on field feedback
• Help establish software architecture and development practices as the product moves from prototype into broader deployment

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of full-stack software development experience
• Experience shipping at least one real-time, monitoring, command-and-control, or operational software product into production
• Strong experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable modern front-end technologies
• Experience building map-based, floor-plan, spatial, or other highly interactive visualization interfaces
• Backend development experience using Python, Go, Node.js, or a comparable language
• Hands-on experience with real-time data architectures using technologies such as WebSockets, MQTT, Kafka, or similar
• Strong understanding of relational database design for event-driven or time-series data
• Experience deploying containerized software using Docker and Kubernetes or lightweight orchestration tools
• Experience deploying and maintaining applications on customer-controlled or on-premises infrastructure
• Understanding of authentication, authorization, role-based access control, and audit logging
• Ability to own features across the entire stack and operate effectively in a small engineering team

Preferred Experience

• Software development for defense, public safety, security operations, corrections, critical infrastructure, or other mission-critical environments
• Experience supporting air-gapped, disconnected, or highly restricted networks
• Familiarity with NIST SP 800-171, CJIS Security Policy, FedRAMP, StateRAMP, or similar security frameworks
• Experience with indoor mapping, RTLS, geolocation, or spatial visualization technologies
• Familiarity with Mapbox, Leaflet, deck.gl, or similar mapping frameworks
• Experience working with sensor networks, RF systems, wireless data, or distributed hardware
• Experience designing interfaces for operations centers or users who need to make rapid decisions from live data
• UX or product design experience, particularly conducting usability sessions directly with end users
• Experience building secure software update mechanisms for on-premises systems
