As a Controls Technician, you will play a hands-on role in the electrical assembly, integration, testing, and maintenance of robotic systems. You will work closely with engineering and production teams to build control systems, troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical issues, and ensure equipment is ready for deployment. This position offers the opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of robotic automation systems, from initial assembly and integration through testing, installation, and ongoing support.

Job Duties

• Assemble, wire, and integrate electrical control systems for industrial robots and automated manufacturing equipment.
• Build electrical cabinets, control panels, wiring harnesses, and associated electrical assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings.
• Install and connect robotic controllers, motors, sensors, end-of-arm tooling, and peripheral automation equipment.
• Perform electrical testing and system validation to verify functionality, safety, and compliance before equipment deployment.
• Troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical issues involving PLCs, controllers, servo drives, sensors, feedback devices, and communication networks.
• Diagnose equipment failures by interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Replace or repair defective electrical and control components, including circuit boards, encoders, motors, and sensors.
• Support robotic system installation, commissioning, and integration at customer facilities as needed.
• Perform preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, and corrective repairs on robotic and automated production systems.
• Document electrical test results, troubleshooting activities, equipment modifications, and maintenance records.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to identify design improvements, resolve integration challenges, and improve system reliability.
• Use hand tools, soldering equipment, and electrical measurement instruments to assemble, inspect, and validate electrical components.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as an Electrical Technician, Controls Technician, Automation Technician, or in a similar hands-on technical role.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, industrial wiring practices, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
• Experience assembling, installing, testing, or maintaining electrical and electromechanical equipment.
• Proficiency with common electrical test equipment, hand tools, and shop safety procedures.
• Ability to identify and resolve electrical faults through systematic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineering and production teams.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned technical tasks.
• Willingness to travel as needed for equipment installation, commissioning, or customer support.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime when required.
• Ability to repeatedly lift up to 30 pounds to waist height throughout the workday.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Preferred Experience

• Hands-on experience assembling, integrating, troubleshooting, or maintaining industrial robotic systems.
• Familiarity with industrial robot platforms, particularly FANUC or Yaskawa.
• Experience building and wiring industrial control cabinets, electrical panels, and automation equipment.
• Working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control programming.
• Experience with robotic programming, including offline programming tools.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols, including fieldbus networks, serial communication, and Ethernet.
• Experience integrating servo motors, drives, encoders, industrial sensors, and feedback systems.
• Exposure to machine vision, laser measurement systems, and other advanced industrial sensing technologies.
• Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems used in industrial automation.
• Familiarity with electrical workmanship and safety standards, including IPC and applicable military standards.
• Current IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
• Experience supporting electrical integration, commissioning, or maintenance of automated manufacturing equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems independently or alongside engineering teams.
