Mechanical Engineering Lead

The Opportunity:

 

As the Mechanical Engineering Lead, you will determine design requirements, plan and execute the design of mechanical devices, develop, test prototypes, and work closely with the manufacturing teams to ensure that design specifications are met.


Job Duties & Responsibilities:


·      Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs, applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer and materials.

·      Confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility studies.

·      Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.

·      Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

·      Create drawings using CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD

·      Create designs in accordance with company regulations and client standards and values.

·      Develop, test and analyze prototypes

·      Submit drawings to relevant stakeholders as well as production or construction teams.

·      Provide support during the entire building process to ensure that the design specifications are met.

·      Analyze problems that may arise during the manufacturing process and recommend solutions.

·      Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests.

·      Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.

·      Work with Plant Managers, Global Operations, and Senior Leadership Team.



Key Qualifications:

 

·      University degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or System Design Engineering

·      P.Eng Preferred (not mandatory) License as a professional engineer in the province of Ontario

·      Minimum 5 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.

·      Take the mechanical lead on various projects, including multidisciplinary projects

·      Carry out engineering calculations related to: structural analysis of steel and aluminum members, including connection points, shafts, weld joints

·      Specify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems components. Specify and select power transmission components including motors, gearboxes, bearings and couplers

·      Carry out static and fatigue FEA of mechanical structures; Prepare and present reports

·      Ability to produce clear and accurate fabrication drawings, BOMS and CNC machining files with CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

·      Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and guidelines with strong industrial experiences; Relevant Codes include CSA S16: Design of Steel Structures, CSA W59: Welded Steel Construction, CSA S157: Strength Design of Aluminum, CSA W59.2: Welded Aluminum Construction, UL508A: Standard for Industrial Control Panels

·      Experience with ERP, PDM and QMS Systems is an asset
